Well, we shouldnt let a game limitation hamper RP.. and whether you like it or not, a capship blocking a gate, lane or docking ring is incredibly in RP.. heck.. it could even make for some good RP. (not with the mindless OORP smugglers, but with others)
Iâll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because itâs flag that I love
And a flag that I trust
As I see it, No.
You shouldn't be allowed to do such thing.
If your going to stop ships of such size.
Get into SOMETHING that is regulated to kill/stop them.

I have to agree with you here.
I can't imagine how it would be bad RP to come across a battleship blocking
a gate to a "secret" and highly restricted system.
I'd enjoy an encounter like that immensely.
Not that i'm ever near Alaska anyway though...
which brings up the point that anyone in Alaska is not
going to be worth RPing with because they're obviously
oblivious to RP since they are there, right?

Well, in this big discussion about what is and is not oorp, I have seen several people use npc behavior to say whether something is oorp or not. The problem of course is that the people forget that npc's do lots of stupid stuff. I see npc battleships run into the planet all the time. NPC's shield run, npc's do stupid stupid things. Lets think about the npc interactions with Trent, mind you it has been long time since I played SP so some of the things are a bit hazy. Somehow when Trent goes to this place or that place, many many ships pop up in his way to stop them, like somehow they knew he was coming. That makes a bit of sense that if the LSF had specific information they would deploy a trap, but the fact that we seem to think that Dreadnoughts are a dime a dozen is crazy. Three Dreadnought to stop a fighter? That makes no sense, none at all. Can you imagine the US Navy moving three Battleships to stop a dope smuggler? Aside from the fact that these Battleships are deployed places and have tasks that they already do, you cant just move them at the drop of a hat, these things take time. Thing is that people seem to think that there are all these Dreadnought waiting to just drop out of thin air on people is just silly.
The fact of the matter when it comes down to it is that many of the rules we have can be considered oorp, but the reason they are there is to improve gameplay experience for everyone. Some things that are in rp make for bad gameplay and thus we have rules against it. When we start the game and click online play, there is a message that sums this up pretty well.
Discovery is a bit different than SP with different rules, try to remember.
In RP I dont see why the LN and LSF shouldn't be able to blow up anybody they want in Alaska, it's a secret military system, although it sounds like this may change so maybe that's why you can't do it....
Zelot: I can understand rules exist for improved gameplay experience, and im fine with that. Can you tell me how this rule fits into that category because I dont really get it, thanks.
Simply put. You can't attack traders with your cap. Firing a CD counts as an attack, and using a game exploit seems like extremely bad form. Then to make it so the only way people can get you out of the way is to commit a violation, well thats just a little low really.
With regards to my own feelings on the alaska situation. It's guarded. Heavily. People don't go in there without prior permission and come out alive. That is integral to the roleplay of liberty and is something the liberty lawful factiosn attempt to uphold.

A capitol ship can take out a transport in about 8 seconds. How is that in anyway fun or exciting for the guy on the other side. Yes you can get your jollies by zapping a trader, it doesnt leave a good taste in anyones mouth. Just get a gunboat, you can do it in 30 seconds, isnt really that hard. In terms of rp, it is a ridiculous waste of money to have battleships stopping smugglers. Any oversight committee would be appalled at tax money being spent in such a frivolous manner. They might even appoint an auditor to monitor spending.
Alright, that's true, but isnt Z-21 patrolled by caps constantly because of it's high security status, I mean I just think smugglers shouldnt go through there, cause they'll get blown up.

None shall pass!
I have no quarrel with you sir knight! Now stand aside!
I move... For no man.
So be it! Have at you!
Well... I can't actually fight you.
Then... Stand aside?
No.
Well please?
No!
*trader proceeds to just dock around him anyways*
Well stop that! Stop!
*trader just docks and is on his way*
Ooooh! Running away eh? You yellow pansy! Get back here! *resumes guarding gate* Stupid traders.
Exactly, Thats all thats going to happen. That or, Someone else is going to dock and your not going to be able to fix it, some one that's allowed to be there. N' As mentioned its not a guard system, then why not allow traders to enter in that area? Yes, Info Card says its Resticted. But, for what reason? To Protect those from Order / Nomads? No matter what, traders/smugglers are going to sue it anyway. So, It don't matter, wether a war ship visit that jumpgate for a trader or anything else. And as JihadJoe mentioned it remains that using a game exploit seems like extremely bad form.
