your point of view is very extreme, although i don t doubt you believe you have your good reasons, i think you should also try ( really try ) to see it from a few more perspectives than your own or those similar to yours. - try to look upon restriction from even the opposite side.
in general - just cause someone is flying a fighter doesn t mean he is a better RPer ( i have a lot more bad experiences with really really nasty, ooRP, ooc, annoying and insulting FIGHTER pilots than with capital ship pilots ..... owing to the fact that there are simply like 10 times more fighter pilots out )
like mb52 said - capital ships are not fighters. - they have a very different RP background. - they are used differently. - one aspect of them is that they are frelling scary. and some people simply like flying them more than flying fighters. - not cause they are on a power trip, not cause they have to compensate for small bodyparts in RL, not cause they like to "own" others and not cause they wanne go "lolz" ( which i actually also see a lot more on fighter and transport pilots than capital ship pilots - also, due to the fact that there are a lot more of those shipclasses around )
by saying "the factions are OK, but limit the indies" - you are in fact insulting ALL the indies that use a capital ship. - even if you say "alright, i know that YOU are OK" - its like saying ... "all people with black hair are dumber than people with red hair, - ok, except the ones i know, they are cool"
i don t believe you even know 10% of the independent players possessing a capital ship on disco. - out of these few people - its hard to really make such a statement.
i know - i m nitpicking... but at least say "in my opinion...." ( the difference is, - what you made is a FACT, but when you at least say that its only YOUR opinion, its no fact but only your personal point of view - which you can have, as well as saying, "i hate all capital ships and people with black hair" - then i can say... "have it your way" but when you say "all capital ships and people with black hair must be hated" - its not your opinion but rather a commandment )
to put it that way - there is not much one can do about rules one doesn t like. - if i didn t like the so called "capspam" i would search for a server that suited my needs better ( maybe a server that has restrictive rules )
at the same time... if the admins decided that only official factions were allowed capital ships - i would most certainly very simply leave disco. - i came to disco, cause it was something "easygoing" after years of everquest raiding. - and i STAYED on disco, cause there was no pressure, no overwhelming rules and total freedom to focus on roleplay instead of levelling up dully.
about seeing things from another perspective.
i know you said ( or someone else ) that a battlecruiser is not as easy to deal with like a fighter. - and i do not know what ships YOU fly.
but just think about that.....
you have a char that you like very much and a ship you like very much. - it is ALLOWED regarding to your ID / NPC faction. - but suddenly, a bunch of people asked - and finally decides that YOUR ship should NOT be allowed to you anymore.
how would it feel? - you d say "but my RP is flawless!" - they say "so you think, but WE don t think so"
if its really bad - they ll call you a "lolzpilot" and "unfair" - and things get worse - you see many of the community jump the band waggon and suddenly you re an endangered species .... although the game allows you what you have.
the above is JUST an example. - i don t say the general "ooRP" capital ship must be defended. - but i really dislike generalizations of any group. - i don t think its "the indie capital ships" or the "lolwut" capital ships. - its just "THIS player or THAT player" but never generally "those".

I blame ignorance.
Anyway, before Jes may/may not say something about wasting forum space I better type some more text. I am an independent advocate, almost every thread that comes up with an Independent player related incident I either view or post. Having said that, I start very few threads on the same issue. Just a point to ponder when we think of the origins of the thread, and how many variants of it have emerged.
In short, I agree with Jinx. He makes a good point that has been made before. When talking about Independents do not tar all Independents with the same OoRP brush. It is annoying, uncalled for and only highlights your ignorance.
I've encountered worse fighter pilots than capital ships. Much more likely to be insulted (which seems to be the majority of enemy-enemy roleplay I see) and
I don't mind capital ships at all. A lot of them aren't writers or elaborate roleplayers, but most get it in a pinch. My only problem when flying a small craft against a capital is that its hard to type out roleplay because you have to frantically dodge. Being killed by a Bounty Hunter Battlecruiser while typing out an RP engagement notice (while he silently fires two streams of Cerberuses into my bomber) is not fun.
Apart from that, I like them. They're challenging, they require teamwork to take down (unless they really need a flying lesson). I enjoy versing and playing as them - especially due to my ANZLAG. Don't ruin the disco experience by restricting/removing capital ships.
Jinx, the ones who RP properly I have nothing against.
It's the ones who use it irresponsibly that have earned my ire. Player faction ships typically are given out based on rank, have requirements, and are only used when necessary.
I'm not exactly saying that caps should be restricted, whether that was the impression I gave or not. I'm extremely annoyed with having three caps come after a group of fighters. People who can't say more than 'engaging' really do not need to have a cap. I was like that, blurting OoRP in chat.
Now the biggest I fly is a dessie, and I only use it when Alpha is being raided. My IMG gunboat I use for RP stuff, because I get raped by bombers. I'll have an OC gunship next mod for Outcast things.
I fly a Barghest, Werewolf, Taiidan, Sabre, Falcata, Pirate Train, and Advanced Train as well.
I'm pretty sure I know the viewpoints by now.
But how often do you see a player faction cap abusing their ship?
Yeah, I know I'm biased. But look, indies have more caps than factions. I'm not naming names for the sake of not starting a trial-by-forum. That's why I don't pick "this one" or "that one," though the distribution for caps should be specific to each player. It's hard to make this general or specific, and I'm just trying to keep this from getting out of hand.
We give new players the same impression daily. And it goes for both sides, lawful and unlawful. Outcasts and Hessians in cruisers entering NY. LN BSes in front of Manhattan. We just need to cut down.

Is precisely what I'm talking about when I say people need to pull the caps out and RP on 'em, not just use 'em as a PvP tool.
Park your Dread in Manhattan orbit, or even several K out, and talk to the people in the system. RP the day-to-day running of your ship. Bring activity and colour to the system during the "dead" times.
Assuming you are not more than 5k or so from the main bases/planets of your faction, no hostile really has any reason to complain if you attack them, but do not go waltzing into a fighter furball if your allies have it covered. Ask if they need backup before jumping in. Hell, on my Rheinland cruiser, I asked a BH in a VHF if he needed help with a Corsair GB...and was totally prepared to let him go it alone if he declined.
Set a good example by using your caps responsibly, and maybe, just maybe, people will see them as a tool for something beyond PvP...
I flew a Battlestar for a while, which is the ship I was OoRP in, along with a Talarca, GB, and a BC.
I was the lolwutter who would go to Liberty and blow stuff up, or go to Alaska.
Thank you, Derkylos.

Simply..run? You don't always have to win, not even often, in fact, you don't have to win ever? The situation we have is the situation that'll stick for a long time, possibly never change. Like in my previous post, why the hell whine about things that don't change..? And to the rest of you, really people, are you idiots or just...well..idiots? I mean, look at the first 2 pages, see what was written there? Now, read the next 4 pages, see how many times it was repeated? Exactly! You whine about the same bloody thing in every bloody post folks. Really, repeating something ain't gonna make it disappear just as closing your eyes won't make you invisible. The system works fine as it is. Those lolwutting ooRP capwhores can just as easily become respected members of the community in a month or two. Why not look at yourself a bit before passing judgement onto others?

Our backup was coming, but was chased off by Xenos.
What really bugged me about that is that they engaged next to the dessie; which goes back to the irresponsibility thing.
