::as far as the 3 auxiliary words, 'fart' is one one the list that I couldn't care less about, but I can think of 2 ways just off the top of my head of how I can use 'fart' in such a vulgar context that I'd have to give myself a 28-day ban just to explain how.
Now, to be fair, I have an extremely vulgar mouth & I have a habit of throwing words around that would make a sailor blush...but you're only gonna catch me 'being myself' on skype in that regard.
I have a very low tolerance for vulgarities <strike>on the forums</strike> in the community for the simple fact that if I can control myself while on the forums or the server, then anyone can, & when someone gets caught spouting off at the mouth in anger at someone, they have no one to blame but themselves when I crucify them for not controlling themselves as they already know they should.
For me, everything boils down to this: when a person rails on another in anger over the net, it's like an irritating chihuahua yapping from behind the safety of the backyard fence. All bark & no brains.
If what you say to someone online would normally grant you a pissed off bloody lip from a pop in the mouth for saying it to someone, then don't type it out & act like an irritating chihuahua.
Missed an L at the end of your link. I fixed it in my quote.
I'm sticking with "damn" as the worst I use. I'd use "bastard", probably quite a bit on my Hunter who's given plenty to swear about on a regular basis, and my Zoner (possibly pirate soon) who just hates everyone... but people don't always know the difference between in-character and out-of-character. I'd rather not risk a sanction over a misunderstanding. Don't know if it's allowed or not, and given the above I don't really have reason to care.
The other part of the problem, as it appears to me, is that there are many (in my limited ban experience seemingly younger aged members on the server) that seem to be waiting, and even encouraging a slip and then pouncing on it to file a sanction report. A number in the sanction thread seem surprised and it can only be that there has been no attempt at discussion and censure by those taking the screen shot with the perpetrator.
And so it was with me. In fact my saying the faeces word (system chat) in what I thought was in character and only about the wrong route I had supposedly taken, not to anyone as an insult, was unremarked by my "buddies" at the time or anyone in the system but surfaced in a sanction report some time later...
Mistrust is not so enjoyable and I have all but decided that, if I return to the server, my characters will be observing radio silence in RP... A lone silent Wolf I shall become.
I freely admit that I personnally have difficulty of getting behind a role of a transport commander that doesn't swear when the situation provokes it. I have been beside many such people and the idea is so far from reality as to be OOR(P). Much less a loot thirsty pirate or fighter pilot.....
However my own problems aside; I observe that the unfortunate effect of prompt & proper Admin action to sanction players on report is to encourage some, perhaps our more immature individuals, to engage in such "report happy" behaviour, especially if outclassed in RP. This effect has no real solution if administrators, so few in number, are to have any chance of maintaining control.
However I wonder if the Server adminstrators cared to look at the number of times certain people filed sanction reports; a pattern might emerge.
Well... I think that it would be wise to require a screenshot of an attempt of a peaceful resolution by the submitters of those particular kind of reports. What do you guys think?

I do believe somebody tried to report me for saying arse once. I use 'damn' and 'hell' a lot. Hardly offensive, more descriptive than anything, and I cringe whenever somebody says 'darn' or 'heck'. Personally, I'd like to say 'bastard' because as far as insults go, it's one of the more descriptive, less thoughtless words. Also, it sounds cool. Unfortunately, there are some people who can't tell the difference between an in-RP 'You bastard son of a whore!' and an ooRP 'lolubasturd!'.
Most of the people who report for a slip of the mouth have the protection of the little kiddies as the last thing on their mind. More often than not, they're trying to get revenge or something.
Extremely agreeing with Knuthetal on the peaceful resolution thing.
With regards to marburgs post: For me, this wasn't about swearing on the forums or being angry at people, it was just about RPing my foul-mouthed characters. I don't really get angry so much over games, and have let a handful of sanctionable offences against me go because, I just don't care that much. But my junker is an unpleasant person to listen to and I want to be able to express myself as fully as the rules will allow in game. The 7 banned words would allow bastard and bitch (Yeah look at me, I'm saying it now!), which gives me enough to work with really. Damn and hell work fine for expletives in other situation.
Re: Bugger
That book must be extremely out of date. It's not even remotely offensive now, to anyone. There's probably only two words that aren't offensive in the US that are offensive here, wanker being one, and the other one is mad racist.

He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.
He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.
What I mean is we should at least keep it at that level. Instead of turning it into an EC for early childhood game or an M for mature game.
