Well, welcome to Discovery. Just to let you know, the corsairs and outcasts aren't the factions with the best ships, like they were in Vanilla FL. In Disco, every faction can use a ship which can mount class 10 weapons, from the light and agile kusari Chimera (which seems to be made out of origami with an armour rating like the one it has), to the "Baby gunboat" Liberty rogue Barghest (actually a bomber rather than a fighter, but the rogues do have a class 10 mounting fighter too). You've probably already seen people wandering around in enormous ships. They may look amazing, but they're not as amazing as you might think, and a few well piloted bombers can rip any capital ship to pieces. Also, with your trader, pirates may lower their taxation prices if you ask nicely and try to RP. I once had 500k tax knocked off for saying "The words 'Oh Bugger' spring to mind" When a rogue disrupted my tradelane. Not everyone out there is going to be friendly, but there should be enough people who are. Well, join a faction, get to meet some people and have some RP experience. We were all new once, and hopefully you'll fit in well.
Just a few things to warn you about: Beware of Mon'star, Phate, the nomads, the keepers, das Wilde, the SCRA, the Harvesters, the Phantoms, and the cabbage hunter.
my advice? go to bretonia. it has less players then liberty, but is simmiler to RP in. read sanction reports untill your eyes bleed.(dont really do that) join a trading faction, get skype. have fun. avoid nomads and wilde like the plauge. never say engageing. or die. have fun. buy a gunboat before buying a bigger ship. buy more gunboats. buy weapons from my gun shop. after getting 1 million credits, type /givecash gun.runner 1000000
