I dont think we need any kind of 'glow' surrounding the ship, it just wouldnt look right... more like a shield than a creepy aura.
Here's what I would do:
-Use something like the retexture that was shown. I would add, to the texture, 'holes' and such in the ship with damaged, exposed wiring and machinery, and a red glow emanating from inside (part of the texture).
-Take the Rheinland or Nomad engine effect, recolor it red and black, and slap that on to the engines in the back.
-In the singleplayer campaign early on when you 'rescue' the damaged prison ship, you can see green smoke and sparks billowing out of the damaged hull. Recolor that black and red, and have it pouring out of the sides of the hangarbay in the center of the necrosis.
-Add a smoldering/smoking effect to the circle inbetween the two spikes on the front of the ship.
Simple changes to aesthetics, but they all make the ship look much more 'scary' or 'dangerous' than it looks right now.
Another thing that woudl be kinda cool is to "paint" a red 'M' across the top/front of the ship, as part of the texture, so it looks like smeared blood was used to scratch out mon'star's initial on the hull.

i was trying to think of a Mon'Star logo after someone had mentioned adding it to the hull. i also thought a bloody M
i found these fonts online, some of which look like they'd work

Well, since it hasnt been tried. Noone knows if itd lag or not.
Since all it is, is a graphic effect, the only possible lag should be Frame Lag. Which if you can fly through a Dark Matter cloud in a system, you can fly through a dark matter cloud around the Necrosis.

Theres a circle in between the two front spikes?

Agreed with Dreygon, a symbol would be better than a simple 'M'. Best would probably be something resembling Mon'star's scar on:
1) Either side of the ship towards the front on the largest section of the spikes.
2) on the top towards the front (where the retexture image i posted has lines almost making a square)
The ALE's used for the damaged prison liner i'll have to look for. But the Derelict ALEs look a tad small though.
Well, I've taken a lesson from the Homeworld series on how to make even the most Benign looking ship scary and horrific.
Just do this...
The second ship most of you should recognize.
And a few side by side comparisons...
Even though we're removing imports, similar asthetic touches if applied to FL/Disco ships would have the same effect in making it more 'creepy' looking.
Another idea would be to have lightning bolts or electrical discharged going across the Necrosis' hull combined with open wounds, bio-mechanical gore, etc. Apply to the existing Necrosis prime, and it's scarier.
