If you are leaving a Freeport (or other neutral base) or an unlawful base ... you are fair game. If you depart Manhattan and he's dodging bullets while making demands ... no OORP there ... he's just dumb to be trying that close to a hostile base.
Not quite, I bet the Zoners or the IMG don't like it when you pirate traders outside their base, might get them in trouble for "supporting" pirates.
' Wrote:I don't have a problem with pirates holding a jump hole or jump gate, in fact they can even use the trade lanes imho, as long as you are hostile to the local law then go for it.
It does make me sad to see pirates trying to do their pirating outside heavily armed lawful bases, that's OORP to me.
I would not call it OORP ... as long as they are hostile to the lawfuls ... its either very brave of them or very stupid. But its NOT OORP.

Zoners and IMG may not like it ... but you're still fare game. Incidentally ... Junkers have the same feeling when it comes to Bounty Hunters hanging outside Yanagi and other bases waiting for a pirate to emerge. Turn about's fair play gents.
' Wrote:isn't their a No Fire Zone around zoner freeports, so if you fire at a trader their, zoners won't like it
No fire zone about Zoner bases is only role play enforced by Zoners. There's no rule in the rule book about this ... its a role play enforcement that would only be enforced by a Zoner who happens to be there at the time. I for one do not pirate next to Freeports out of respect to Zoners ... and I expect the same treatment in return around Junker bases. But the fact remains ... a pirate does not have to be hostile to the Zoners to hang out waiting for the trader. I can sit outside a Freeport waiting for the trader to emerge ... and I can wait for the trader to move out beyond 15k from the Freeport before I take him on. So ... what's the issue here?
Baltar, both replies you put here are absolutely spot on. I have to say though, spcifically the first one, that your wording could of been better. This fella is obviously new to the forums and disco and so will not be familiar with the large amount of rules, different RP, and generally accepted behaviour etc on the server.
I think a reply that was equally as informative but slightly less condescending would of been more appropriate and yours was not (in my mind) the best way to welcome new people to our community! Just a small criticism mate and nowt personal, just felt it needed mentioning.

' Wrote:Have Pirates just stopped pirating Trade lanes?
In a word, yes. The new upgraded defenses on bases/stationary BS means that it is no longer safe for pirates to follow someone who escapes back into a tradelane. So we have to pick places where you don't have such a means of escape.
No longer active online due to a dwindling amount of non-PvP (trading, pirating, mining, etc.) fun in the new version.

Good point MacAulay ... sorry mate ... I'll use a bit more tact next time.
Pirates at trade lanes, jump holes and jump gates is fine.
But outside lawful bases it is just Wrong
At some jump gates there is a border station, which is a deffinate No for pirates, anyway, what is stopping the trader putting his Rp hat on and asking someone to go through and check?
Might incourage more rps and less of 'The Silence of the Traders'

ONLY if the lawfuls are not hostile to the pirate.
Otherwise ... a "law abiding" trader would be OORP docking or even being near any unlawful base. Can't have it both ways folks. And if you've got a lawful corporation ID ... like DSE or Samura for example ... then you'd better not be hangin out with unlawfuls ... and unlawful bases and NPCs better be shooting at you. And jump holes near unlawful bases should be a no-no for traders ... which is the majority of the jump holes.
