' Wrote:Yes it does. Which is more Rp-full? Trader flying around said pirate who he shouldn't even know is there, saying nothing at all, or worse, taunting him. Or, said trader encountering said pirate, and getting caught, which leads to RPing of being robbed, etc.?
You're gonna need a stronger argument than that.
Why sir, I'll have you know that most pirates are delighted to be taunted by my "girls".
They deliver the best tauntage in all of Sirius, by far!
Then, when the conversation drags off, I /givecash half a mil to soothe "their" failure.

Sigh.. yes you do.
Another example then:
A few days ago, the "Bafflin'.Express" was asked for a 500K donation by a polite young Outcast in Tau 29.
(Hardly a pittance, as a Geisha-load of Baffin Scrubbies to Harris is hardly a "rich haul"...)
Reggie complied.
He then sternly informed the lad that he would expect to see a chit for 100K of that amount deposited to the Temple.Fund in Baffin, as the gent's "Fithings" for the month.
The nice lad (I don't recall his name, but Kudos!) scratched his noodle a bit, then flew off.
Later it was learned that the Temple.Fund had received a "donation" of 250K! Half the original "tax"!
What I am espousing here, sir, is that every situation is unique, and mostbunall times receives exactly the response it deserves.
I "fail" to see how more "rules" delineating what is "acceptable" will improve that unique aspect of this "game" atall, atall.
There are many places where you don't even need to check the chat log to know there will be pirates. For example, I never take the mojave -> NY gate lanes anymore, as there is almost always a pile of pirates waiting for me. Same with the entirety of NY. If you managed to avoid the pirates by cruising over them, then they need to move and get less predictable imo.
I found a moment to duck into the internets and decided to peek through the forum for half a moment when I spotted this thread. I found it to be a veritable cornucopia of goodly and sound advice but it left me with a puzzler.
Where does the Xeno practice of demanding that the bulk of their prey dump the entirety of their cargo or face all manner of bad times fit into your worldview? - Note that everything following this sentence is simply context setting fluff, that's the key question.
Naturally we don't pull much personal profit from this, in fact I believe I'm the only Xeno that I've ever seen ply his trade in anything larger than a bomber (two noted special gunboats aside) so we generally don't even haul a load of valuable cargo back as some pirates enjoy doing (I know of several who celebrate in demanding exorbitant sums in the knowledge that getting the green light to kill their targets will grant them a net advantage in the sale of their haul).
So, our standard rule of thumb is to demand you relinquish the entirety of your haul (I make many exceptions, to broadcasting messages of support for our movement etc depending on the perceived "quality" of the individual I encounter in addition to their IFF's nationality) which is pretty stiff to say the least. 90% of the time it results in a brawl. So, yar, two cents?
I'd just like to say, very good job with making this manual, maclypse.
It's nice to see someone making a good effort like that to better the state of the server, especially if it's someone new to the forums like yourself.
More demands or less demands problematics aside, I agree with everything you said.
Now, personally I also feel like you shouldn't take more than say.. 70% of a trader's profits.
But generally, how much I take depends on how well the trader RPs.
Some I can even let out free, demanding something quirky like a shrubbery, for example.
Anyways, good work, *pats on back*.
<span style="font-familyalatino Linotype">
<span style="color:#000000">All morons hate it when you call them a moron.
I've said it before and here goes again. Piracy is for RP not making money and when a pirate asks me for 2 mil or more there is zero chance of them getting it. I fly a 3500 unit ship and I work too hard and too long to lose my profit to lazy players playing pirates as a way to make money. I've gotten really good at running and sometimes even can take out a pirate in anything less than a gunboat( a ridiculously out of rp ship for a pirate to have imho, gunboats are military vessels and I've never heard of a real pirate who wasn't in an old clunker of a civilian ship) Make a trader if you want money leave piracy for good RP. I simply refuse to lose an hours worth of profit in 2 minutes to a pirate. Give me "2milrdie" and you'll get me SILENTLY thrusting away while spamming cds, firing turrets and charging cruise. Ask me for a reasonable amount and you get good rp in return.
Well, locking would save a lot of arguments - though I don't mind if people keep arguing personally.
Only reason to lock and clean up a thre would be if it's getting pinned, and judging from the complaints I guess that won't happen anytime soon. Being nice to your fellow players clearly isn't an appreciated suggestion.:)

Someone else mentioned this earlier in the thread, but you CAN attack before saying a word. I used to do it all the time. Pew pew, take out the shields, then talk. Maybe half the hull if they're still moving. Drain their nanobots/batteries. You're a pirate; be intimidating.
' Wrote:Just shoot out a gate in the middle of a lane, and wait for something juicy to drop out of it. Why is this a good tactic? Many reasons. For a start, there's no gates or docks nearby to escape to. It also dumps the trader close to you, meaning you will be able to get close before he can enter cruise speed. With the speed of the lane, the trader will not see your ship in time to change direction either. It all makes for a very good ambush.
Another idea: Wait for a trader to pop into your scanners (that's a good 14k warning), and then kill the lane. Sometimes the lane will be dead, but ships still pass through. You also get a chance to see who it is that's coming through you. Maybe the lawful won't notice who you are by the time that they pass, or maybe they won't see you at all.
(and psst, pirates aren't supposed to be nice and friendly.)

HAHA! That was me, you crazy nut!:)I never had a target demand I give part of my "tax" to charity before. Very surprised, I really did scratch my noodle - and laughed hard enough to squirt coffee through my nose! I couldn't resist - so I sent you the money (and some!) for brightening my day with some and unusual fun RP. Good luck with your temple, mate! Hihihi.

Well, Xenos have this nasty ID-description forbidding them to demand credits. That leaves demanding cargo as a way to make a living. Now, being xenophobic nuts who hate all trade and communication - it makes RP sense for them to demand all cargo, even when they can't carry it.
From a player's point of view - I dont enjoy this... Once on my way up through colorad from NY - I lost my cargo to xenos and had to return and buy a new one. That's not so bad - but if I had been coming the other way from New Tokyo, I'd have lost 15 minutes of travel and 4 million worth of goods. That's way overkill.
Personally, I think Xenos should take what they can carry in their fighters and let us go with the rest, just so we don't have to suffer a massive loss like that. Not as good RP-wise perhaps... but it'll stop traders from throwing their monitors across the room.

Ah yes, the advanced lane-hack. I should add that. Thanks for pointing this out - I'll edit the OP.
