That aside, there is not really many places a Battleship can moor to for maintenance. So, if we're talking BHG, ok. However, Liberty, Rheinland.. I'm not sure they'd need it.. Kusari maybe, with the war and new teritories. Bretonia also not. Maybe, but highly unlikely, Outcasts and Corsairs. Zoners, yes, except their prime weapon is diplomacy. So, ok, you have a gun transport, and it transports guns, and gives them to the battleship/cruiser/whatever. Now, that combat ship needs to moor to some friendly station, in order to mount those guns, that is, perfom maintenance. Both in RP and in game mechanics, it is unlikely, again, save for the BHG.
On the other hand, the Commerce raider is a beautifull idea.
For instance, an uparmored and upgunned and uppowered Shire, with 1000K cargo space?
I would thinkof its as more of a civilian or "merchant marine" ship--not necessarily a "stock military house design". Certainly a weapons seller would be able to really use this and I have been on several servers where people made their bread and butter being a "weapons gopher". The idea is to not have to travel in a ship to a system you don't plan to be deployed to and alter reputation just to make a one time gun purchase. not all guns are as avaialble as might be desired. Would also make good eye candy if designed creatively.

I couldn't give a monkey's about Kusari generally... I'm more than just a little busy with Liberty.
The point I was trying to make, and I'm sorry I put it in a way which was light hearted, was that with the guard bases we have, with the equipment selling locations as they are, this is redundant.
Running a gun dealing business has to have risk involved, otherwise nobody would bother trading. You can lose your stock in one fell swoop, and thats the way it should be. I deal guns. I appreciate this. It's the balance.
Not to mention the fact that selling cap guns to people presents issues in it's own right with RP and sanctions and people using the right gear...
This isn't needed simply put. It's just something which makes me ask 'why bother'.
I've contemplated a ship like this before. It's nice to see somebody with a little bit more clout around here than me bother putting it up for discussion, though. If somebody wants to suggest a visual theme or decide what kind of ship this would look like I'd be happy to put it on my 'To Make' list. It'd be a really nice thing not to have to fly the entire fleet up to Corsica every time somebody wants a loadout change.

Really now sir, a light heart is a right heart, as my grandkids will someday say.
Wait, Kusari?
Nevermind, not sure what you're talking about there but why nibble on the bait? Rawr!
Guard systems sell the stuff next to the ship, why does the ship shoot the guns? Why is it a trade vessel?
It's this weird transport that can fire gunboat and cruiser guns kind of and moves them in security I guess to sell them to people with ease who can't be arsed to properly rep to their factions?
I guess?
I don't see a need presented by this ship in .85. In 84 where equipment was odd and spread out perhaps, but nowadays? Not really no.

Apology accepted but "light hearted comments" voiced publicly by an admin carry a little more import than one might intend.
There are groups and players that can use this and it would help them. The decoy/q-ship/commerce raider is one that would be great here. In fact, taking the above person's desire, you could actually make a gun like a cargo pod and mount them on identically described but actually differnt versions of the same ship. Any kind would do.
I dun leik it. It just seems...Purposeless to me. Sure, we could move guns to our factions and all that, but, couldn't we just...Move the ships that needs the guns? It would take the same amount of time, and, really, be generally more useful, because you can carry x amounts of guns mounted on your ship you wanted in the first place instead of only the amount on this ship.
Just seems kinda useless to me. I mean, do we really need something like this?

We don't "need" any ships. Its simply a suggestion. We surely don't need more bombers and capital designs--yet they keep pouring out. Some ideas are worth exploring. Something differnt has more potential to add value than more of the same. That's where my thinking is.
Sorry--Dusty--I edited before I posted but double pasted part there. Hehe--you will never know what I just deleted...it was really witty but I flipped a coin and will be good now. And to be clear, I didn't intentionally do anything to affect your rp--it was too low key for me to be even aware of what it was--I was playing Junker rp there, that's all. The preception of my motives was just that--perception. Can't really help you much there. Ask Forest--he can explain it.
The idea makes perfect sense to me, gaiz. My guard system is a lovely place - dockable Outcast Dreadnought, giant arch base, huge-ass black hole - but bringing an Outcast Dreadnought back and forth between Malta and Corsica is NOT fun. I realize most factions don't have a guard system quite so laboriously difficult to get through, but what about Bounty Hunters (God help us)? Parked off in Omicron Delta? They shouldn't be flying back to Rostock every time they want to swap something out for a Razor. I mean, I want to make them suffer just like every other non-BHG on the server, but I want to blow them up, not make them trek back and forth across the sector. Then there are the warring factions. I understand that most of us are too damn lazy to bother, but there are really precedents for system-camping in an inter-house war - factions can, in theory, using the Battleship (with one hell of a fighter screen) as a sitting base, and hold a position on the unfriendly side of a jumpgate for an extended period of time. Something's got to support the Battleship. Is it necessary? No, of course not! But neither are Liners necessary to transport human cargo, nor a mining ship necessary to mine. Since we're so concerned about RP in this mod, why not make a convenient function for more cap-oriented factions and weapons dealers, make a better Repair Ship (for that should also be one of the functions of a fleet tender, delivering batts and botts to capital warships in an operation, which I've seen the RoS do multiple times to good effect). Lots of things in this mod aren't necessary, but we put them in anyways, and I think this one certainly has a place on the 101st's budget.

I can see this idea working, but I don't think it should have enough energy to fire anything. It should have maybe only one or two turret slots, of which is can carry pretty much any turret, and both have very limited turning arcs.
Other than the issue Eppy presented, there's not much other reason to have such a ship any more, and if that's the case it doesn't need to have defenses, or any fighter equipment. Just make sure it has enough cargo to deliver cap 8 armour.
