LOLWUT .. come on say it with me.. LOLWUT.. Yes did you think that OOC comes in one size for all?.. those people that know about the // should also know when to use it and how much of it.
You can help to stop the OOC BTW if you want something changed.. But it will take some of your time explaining and being nice and relax.. Yes inhale And slowly exhale.. Help the new players learn the right ways.
I said right ways not your ways... gah:P
Weedalot: I agree. I disagree with the "//" "rules lawyering-cum-FLhook" strategy. If we get more hardwired rules about what you type , that will only morph the problem rather than fix the problem.
Education, politeness and respectful rebukes are the key to fixing the problems.
Take the time to address OOC you see (IN PM!!). Try to be helpful. Point out what they did incorrectly, point out what they can do instead, wish them good luck and well, and you should see results.
If they choose to be asses, you cannot make them do anything, so go your merry way, and do not concern yourself with their stupidity.
Simple as that.

Why the ****ing hell would you want this??? // is good. As said, people will just remove the // from their chats.
With command: //You have to click the docking icon in freelancer to undock, it is at the top of the screen.
*RP goes on*
Without: You have to click the docking icon in freelancer to undock, it is at the top of the screen.
Screen?
Freelancer?
Docking icon?
*in roleplay insults against that person*
A //ignore command would be much better.
Heh, that's a good point to. In any case, this command is useless. If you need to use OOC chat for mass communication, then you'll just get banned for trying to help/enforcing the rules. If you are just a normal lolwhutter, then you just add a space, or remove the // entirely.
If you'd do that people would just spout their OOC without the slashes. I'd prefer a console command that filters out messages starting with // instead.
The current PM system is way to restrictive. Pretty much works great if your talking to one and just one person.
But in the cases of trying to straighten out most fubars in the game or game play, while playing the game, the only thing that doesnt seem to work is GROUP INVITE.
Inviting all the people you need to OCC to, to a group, so you can hammer out whatever problem that just happened.
The catch is, getting the people to join your group, especially when you have 2 or more Admins yelling at you in game.
And freelancer is not like IRC chat ,where you can Tab-arrow back to the last few people that sent you a PM.
Yes, OCC chat will happen. People should avoid 5,000 line so of OCC chat.
Yes, people will ask //Is the server lagging?? .....I know I ask that for the simple reason that if the server is lagging, then I need to avoid complex Role Play action, where the lag will just mess up in game RP.
Auto-fines and penalties? I 'vote' NO. That will just discourage helpful persons from trying to help out a group of people.
GROUP INVITES AND GROUPS CHATS.
Try it the next time you need to round up a batch of people that need to use OCC.

My thoughts entirely. Not all OOC is bad OOC, and if anything like this were ever implemented, it would have to be system only and after every third line to lower failure rate. While ideally people should do so without interrupting others, not everyone is so quick to use a PM to contact somebody.
Not meaning to seem cold, Geisha, but it's 'Out of Character'. Two O's and a C.
