Well Adrian, there are plenty more ways of having fun. Yes...
Sometimes pulling off some awesome theft, then running from under the noses of the law is awesome. Great stuff... Love it.
However I tend to think that having a gentlemen's agreement with certain things is a rather good idea as well. Opens up more avenues.
Another note. When I see a bunch of people hungrily going for the kill, it does concern me. That kind of mob mentality doesn't have a place in this game really, or at least in my opinion of it.
' Wrote:Then take part in Dieter's pre-arranged fight slots for that. There is generally an attempt to balance them.
I do. The LN/RM fights are done using these. There was also a unioner/XA slot as well a while ago, and the old TBH/RoS fights back in the day were great fun until things got personal and people started regarding winning as important. I suppose thats the point really.
EDIT: Thats not the same as open gameplay. All I ask is that people have enough consideration for other people's enjoyment that they think about whether or not they're gunna piss someone off by doing something. It doesn't matter if you think they're being idiots to get pissed off by it or if you personally wouldn't get annoyed, just have the flexibility to think about it, and then act accordingly.

You'd have to be some sort of mind-reader for that. It's all getting impractical now.
Let's say I'm in a Kusari destroyer. I see some privateer nonce causing trouble.
Must I then try to remember who the pilot is (Is it Joe? Is it Adrian?) and then try to remember which one wouldn't enjoy this (Is it Adrian that hates getting blown up by superior forces? Or is it Joe?)?
This would give me a headache, at any rate.
Also, note that the TBH/RoS fights got personal, correct? These were originally fair fights, right?
If it isn't one thing spoiling it, it will be something else, it seems.
You don't have to be a mindreader Adrian. There are accepted standards in people's thought. Unless you know the individual then you can default to them.
The RoS/TBH fights got personal for a lot of reasons, and yes, if it's not one thing spoiling it, then it's going to be something else. But that doesn't give any excuse for apathy towards the problems.

I'm not suggesting apathy, I'm suggesting seeing it as something other than a problem.
Try to enjoy it, or try to play in another region of Sirius.

Try flying a nomad. Go everywhere! See Sirius! Get eaten alive by swarms of gunboats! It's everywhere Adrian, and it'll be a problem as long as people get annoyed as a result of it. Thereare two ways of changing that... Either it's not done to (or by) people who find it disagreaable, or those same people change their mindset completely.
Which is easier to change, the mindset of the majority, or the behaviour of the minority?

What do you expect?
I mean, if even numbers of folks attacked you, that wouldn't be fair, what with Nomad gear being better.
Also, come on, really... aliens are asking for it by virtue of not being human. Nothing would cause a red alert more than the jellyfish that tried to wipe out humanity. At least the other dudes can be bought off, or expected to do something other than exterminate everyone.
I see what you are saying Joe and for the most part I agree, showing some honour is to be saluted. Theres is a flip side however when you have a wing of excellent fighter pilots that can come in, cream everyone in the system and be off on their merry way, again that can be a little unfair on the less skilled unorganised victims.
Some groups and players require more force to shift them, no one has to be caught in a gank, have an escape route planned, withdraw your forces. There is a good chance some of the over killers will not follow (especially the capitals, leaving you able to mop up your pursuers.
I used to take my Xeno into NY exactly because I was expecting to fight several players (of fighter/bomber class) I agree throwing large ships at fighters that have no hope of winning is lame, but the fighters have an excellent chance of escape in this scenario.
I am still confused as to why Ench has chosen to leave the LN, surely she was not ganked by official [LN] players.
