Yeah... I've eh... Kinda covered this before, although not the angle of selling RPs in and of themselves. But its totally ludicrous that somebody can just go and say, "Selling this. Equipment is this. Minimum bid is this." Its rubbish.
If anybody actually looks at this post, check out My Thread on the matter. Its from a couple of weeks ago, but its still relavent. I'll quote myself on the subject at hand in case nobody looks at that link...

A captain of a Nimitz isn't going to go and sell his aircraft carrier, or rather the government's, and go take a vacation to Tahiti.
"Sorry, Admiral, my wife says she wanted me back home more than once a year. Yeah... Uh-huh... Alright, well its being sold in the Persian Gulf, so send a rep if you want your chance at getting it. Yeah. Great! Hope to see you there, Admiral. Ah, thank you... I'll tell her you said that... Uh-huh. Okay, see you later Admiral. *click*"

I always start a new page, i'm just glad this time I didn't do it.
Anyway, moving back onto the matter at hand, how come that in 4.84 I never saw a cruiser or battleship for sale, and suddenly were getting two threads a day saying "selling Kusari Destroyer", or some other ship.
And nice one trying to buy that Kusari Destroyer Bluntpencil, for Bretonian study, that made me rofl.

I think it's the other way around, getting the ship is fun but as soon as you've finished you think "Ah crap, what have I done!" Thats what I was thinking, believe me...

I love caps. It is true they don't fly well and people don't like em, but once you get it down it is a really good time.
There is nothing like seeing a flaming corsair cruiser just before it pops, give me a warm fuzzy.
But back to the subject.... maybe it would be better if selling the caps were more of a private thing or not on the RP channels, really there is no basis for it in rp, and like I said in the begining, even buying it in the first place is a oorp action. The captain of the nimitz didn't start in a transport and didn't powertrade between the us and china to save up for his carrier.
I agree with Varyag, for a military captain to have to shell out cash for the ship is ooRP anyway. And I don't have the time to trade up all the time, so buying ships at a bargain/getting a slightly better price then the ship dealer would have given me makes sense to me the player.
if we can't sell this ships we buy then why be allowed to buy them in the first place? (Military)
What I'm getting at is if "they are in the property of the Government" then all Indie Military Ships must be assigned to a official faction. To me that would only make sense.

I'm afraid that I lol'd. Anywho, true, but it has been long accepted that the actual process of setting up a character was an ooRP one. I am of the opinion that while starting in a Starflea, flying across Sirius, shelling out an un-Godly amount of money, and then bribing people/doing missions is ooRP, getting rid of the ship shouldn't be; because once you get all that done, thats when the RP starts.
It sounds like people are griping about the very thing on which this community is founded based on convenience. When exactly did we start allowing for personal ease to get in the way of the Discovery RP 24/7 community?
Making a club at school doesn't cost 500 mill, but we made the faction creation fee such, along with the prolonged acceptance process, for the sake of increased RP quality. Its a hassle for the people who have to undergo said process, so why should we only now start making people's lives easier on something equally relavent in regards to RP?
The /movechar command allows ships to be bought and sold. If you want to avoid buying, repping and role-playing the creation of a ship, or find that someone out there has a character they don't want anymore, then it's convenient. But as for it being a role-play thing, well, that isridiculous in many cases. Of course, the buying and selling of certain ships could be role-played - ready made civilian ships etc. That would be an interesting thing to see - people selling a complete line of ships; but what's the benefit?
Generally the purchase of ships done in role-play is to provide a justification for factions to use technology outside the standard, which are bought and repped by people themselves. The forum rp is required for many unusual set-ups like this.
