' Wrote:To explain some of the reasoning behind the cargo drop:
- If you are near friends and you lag out they can guard/watch your cargo until you log back in.
Only if those friends are safe.
Quote:- If you are near enemies then it is a player to player interaction; they might return your cargo if you log back in quickly enough and explain it was your internet connection. I'll reduce the anti-F1 time to say 10 seconds to help with this.
Or, they may just decide they've won.
Quote:Bear in mind right now if this situation occurs and they report you, you will lose a minimum of 50 million credits, usually all credits and possibly all guns and sometimes be banned for 7 days.
You're only reported if someone feels you've done somethign wrong. If you log back in (suggested above) they likely wont report you. Now you, again, I reiterate, lose automatically. Sanction first, talk (ever?)

I would like to survey the instances where this causes people problems from this point forward, i.e. since the most recent changes. Please post if you do have trouble.
We've anticipated all sorts of trouble which this will bring. Please do not assume our anticipations are invalid because it hasn't happened yet.
Guys, Cannon is asking that this thread be used to post ACTUAL problems with this. If people would like to discuss the possible issues and ramifications of this, I suggest you start another thread, so as to make it easier for Cannon to deal with the technical issues.
' Wrote:That's a load of crap. Why should one lose 10 millions worth of cargo, for just losing connection? It occurs very often, and it will quickly get on everyone's nerve. Even worse than losing connection when you're loaded with nuclear devices, and just about to cross a minefield.
On the other hand, a simple message would do the trick.
Oh, sorry, You mean the Console message that says not to do F1?
And the Console message that says visit the forums and read the rules?
Oh and the one that states be courteous to your fellow players?
What is a load of crap, is the amount of people getting away with things, they shouldn't be, and ruining the game for others, EVERY DAY, with no or little consequences.
If a few players are inconvenienced, because the rule breakers out number those who DO play by the rules, that's a good thing in my books.
This is exactly the situation that Virus/Hoodlulm/Xoria/Del and a number of members have been talking about.
It's good to see the admins at least TRYING to fix things, and as you can see by Cannon's replies in this thread,
they are willing to adjust and change things for the better.
Like I said, I will GET NEGATIVELY affected by this thing as well, but I still support it.
With tweaking it'll be a good thing.

Cannon, how will it work if someone cruises, + EK, and then logs out?
Will it catch those if you are within 5ks to them?

What happen if a player, aware of this giant hole, decides to pull off his E-cable to simulate an internet disconnection instead of a F1? He will be fine? and at the end, somewhat "unsanctionable", since who will take SS if the game is now taking "care" of everything?.
Utopia, that is what it is sadly:(
I prefer what me, Zeltak and Casero proposed. You'd still get sanction but, this in inevitable.
(Apart from that, eh. This seems to be a move to compensate for the lack of Administrators by making the server deal out it's own sanctions. Apologies, but that is what it appears to be.)
The idea behind such plugins is to remove from the rulebook all those rules which are just patchs to in-game mechanics deficiencies.
That way the rules become shorter, there are less sanctions, less rule lawyering and more fun, which is the primary purpose of playing FL; not to be worried about breaking rules/reporting people, but just to have simple, old fashioned fun:yahoo:

My connection peters out every 5 - 10 minutes if I am playing from a certain place. I can usually, but not always, get a better connection than this. When the connection is dodgy, I log in on my trader - it makes sense, since I clearly can't do combat properly. Sometimes I will just get red lag, sometimes it stops entirely. I tend to fly through populated space. It is rare that I cannot see another player on my scanner.
Earlier on, I was hauling some ship hull panels. I went to Southampton Shipyard. I docked. Well, I thought I docked. Because I managed to land, sell the hull panels, buy some basic alloy, went for a brief break since there were only 112 people on and I wasn't hogging a spot, came back, and tried to undock. Then I was disconnected. I reconnected and found myself outside the shipyard, with no cargo at all and the credits I had when the ship hull panels (which had only cost a million, granted - not all that much) were still on board. My hull hit points were at full. I docked, and I had a repair fee of some 29,700 credits for my ship's hull (it's a Firefly). My first thought was that someone had destroyed me in space when I lagged out next to the shipyard - but there had been no pirates in the system or in Leeds, and then I saw this thread.
(I admit it's much less severe than a barge taking a hammering.)
' Wrote:Oh, sorry, You mean the Console message that says not to do F1?
No, the message popping up to the people around you, whenever you when you F1.
That's all we need. Why do you need the cargo dropped anyway, if the player in question would get fined or even banned for it ? Just to harm the innocent ones? I really cannot see the point. And trust me, you cannot rely on the fact that the ones around you will 'guard your loot'. Yeah, I'm really -confident- Weedalot would 'guard' my weapons dealer's stash, if by tough luck I lose connection outside Manhattan, and he's around.

This is something else not related to the anti-F1 stuff. Sounds like the standard FLServer anti-cheat kicked in -- which is common with laggy connections -- the anti-F1 doesn't damage the hull (anymore) and it wouldn't return your credits.

If you stay within 5km of them it'll work, if they escape to farther away then it won't.

It is a loophole. Not much to be done about it.

Also welcome to continue posting other ideas/questions and such; I just particularly want to know about ingame problems as well.

I completely agree with this approach but there is a problem here. F1 is not one of those hard and fast, "Oh you are absolutely a cheater" situations. This assumes it and auto-punishes with lots of room for some error.
The other thing is EVERY rp cargo carrying ship is now at risk of having its rp suspended or even broken if an error is made by the player or the script. Intentions no longer matter. I have a ship designed with 25k of Rp cargo space as do a couple of other players. Throw in those who fly with "crew and equipment" and the weapons dealers and faction armories and this is a big deal to us. I can't just go get another thousand Wild and Nomads or a Nomad power cell or eighty million in guards.
Its an RP server--that's the fun. Putting the RP behind the rules is backwards.
