Quote: Linkero, if you'd actually seen the stuff happen, E.G. people in RL blowing up and blood going everywhere, you would be offended. Try not to be so careless of other people's feelings. I was in a bloody humvee a year ago when I got hit by a roadside bomb. Killed my best friend and damn near killed me.
Does a car in an accident ~10 metres blowing up next to you and the body parts spraying around to you count?
I wouldnt be offended by it; it's a game. Pixels don't die, they just change shape, colour, and either move or stop moving. Sometimes they teleport.
And a simple solution? Make it a simple flying shell bomb that is controlled by an intelligent computer. There you go,a <Insert hull rating for 4x damage> hull, unshielded, slow turning, smart bomb that has no human pilot. You're just killing your wallet.
To solve the respawning thing just so someone doesnt just undock and kill someone again, make it expensive to rearm the 'weapon' that activates on contact, or whenever you please by pressing the trigger. So thus its expensive, and mostly to be used for roleplay.
And please, leave your drama about your friends and family dying to carbombs at the door; we've all probably experienced it, and I know I've gotten over it. I carbomb people in games to this very day. No one wants to hear it
The concept could be applied though. The raiders come in, bringing a suicide ship with them. When things go haywire, they fly together and the ship blows up, possibly killing the pursuing authorities.
In terms of mechanics, I would probably go with a bomber-style ship with two slots for the "explosives". Two 1 range torpedoes which explode on each other (if that's possible).
' Wrote:I can remember a rumour where GC pilots blow their ships up when they're about to be captured. I wouldn't be surprised if other terrorists like the Gaians, Mollys and Unioners destroyed their ships instead of being captured.
Maybe, but, you know. That's to avoid capture? If you fly into battle with a suicide ship you're being a bit pre-emptive in killing yourself to avoid capture I reckon.

A flying bomb controlled by an "AI" would be acceptable..
BUT look, there are indeed people who play this game who have lived through/been in the vicinity of Suicide Attacks, and yes, this is just a game, pixels don't die etc etc, NOT THE POINT.
The point is, that when you live through something like that in real life, the memories don't go away and you damn well don't want them dragged up by a game which you play to get away from the real world.
It's not the point that it's a game, the point is that the simple reminder of an event like that, is not a pleasant one.
To be honest, this is a videogame and a violent one at that. Getting exploded is getting exploded, can't be particularly sensitive to how it happens one way or the other.
My biggest concern with such a thing is that it easily boils down to griefing.
Logging out for the night? Just wanna pop in for 30 minutes to be a prat? Load up the suicide ship, fly up to player Y and explode yourself.
Well see, the suicide ship wouldnt have guns, let alone shields, or probably not thrust much faster than 100 metres/sec. As well as turning like a gunboat. Dodge it, shoot it, and you win!
Also, it's like a SNAC
-Bombertards SNAC hits Fightertards shields-
-It's super effective!-
-Nothing happens-

If you put it like that, I think everyones gonna get a bombship and blow each other up for no good reason other then "Engaging". If they are implemented, they should probably be given only via admin through Bastille or something like that.
To be honest, I feel guilty about bringing this thread up in the first place now that there's such a serious argument coming up about this. I don't think we should implement this feature anymore, we should consider the opinions of the war vets, especially since they've been through it all and putting in this feature would be sot of unfair to them, especially after all they've been through for us alone.
