I guess I will stop trading now and having any such rp cargo period.
I have bad connection 24hrs a day. My best ping is 233 and my worst is 798. I drop out of FL on a average 4 times a day (on a good day). 6 to 8 times for my bad days. Perfect, I can see myself losing 6-8million in credits and redoing the same route 7 times. I will just have to start doing intersystem trades between planets and station.
Nevermind leaving Disco anyways. pfft. This just put another nail in the coffin of issues on why to leave Disco
Edit: Who do you ask for your cargo back when oh lets say in front of manhatten/going by another convoy/ passinga battle scene/ passing by a mining site - with six ppl feeding on your cargo like piranhas. (3 people or more and I lag out)
Edit: In addition, asking the very same people for my cargo back; who could be the F1ing types. Don't think that will fly.
You only lose your cargo if you are within range of another player. So unless you somehow disconnect in Manhattan orbit or similar places, you won't lose your cargo or anything. Even if you disconnect in front of players, the cargo will either be there where you were, or someone takes it (you can just ask for it back).
Edit: I have a 500ms <10% loss/lag connection to the server, and this plugin doesn't worry me. I hardly encounter players anyway while trading so I won't stress if I disconnect.
I trade alone ... in remote areas ... so it wont affect me if i get disconnected ... just i sometimes get disconnected in battles , happens from time to time , will i lose ammo? missiles , mines ?
What's the point in server dropping your cargo if you F1? If you've done it on purpose, obviously someone will report you and you'll get fine/banned, just as you said. So the rest, that have not done it on purpose will have to suffer from this, without any real reason. I really don't get it. Isn't a message enough ?

Sorry, I thought I had: I want to reduce the number of violation reports that need to be processed by a person.
Incidentally, I'm waiting for someone to post a report of a problem (yes I know about Tinkabell) since the most recent changes were made about 10 hours ago. I expect this to happen, I'm just suprised it hasn't already since clearly a lot of people drop out every 3 to 4 hours.

- It only happens if another player is within 5km of your ship at the moment you disconnect and the player is not a member of your group.

See the highlightened part?
Just NO.
The rest is fine, notification messages and such.
Here is just an example:
I took up Military Vehicles at Ft. Severn and move them to Battleship Concord.
Now I start my route and as my connection not everytime really seem to like me, somewhere in Texas near Houston I got a Disconnect.
Now, there are often several players around Houston, no?
All of them had been neutral (white) on my scanners, so none of them was of my faction.
Really sad, as I now connect again, I have lost cargo in the value of 5million Sirian credits.
So....
Where to get an insurance on that, so I can afterwards get my money back?
As said, basicly a very good idea.
But will get -very- annoying -very- fast.
I say we should at least give this a chance to determine how successful the plugin is at distinguising between lagging out and F1ing. Speculationg about how terrible it might be is pointless and counterproductive, lets wait for some empirical evidence of the plugin stealing cargo from someone who lagged out unintentionally, because at present we have none, and if we don't get any soon we can probably assume this works pretty well.
