my example of the "light bomber" would be the cougar,
i own one and owning with it, VHF's,bombers, gb's
in a small group we can even "destroy" cruisers and battleships
however 1 on 1 fights with VHF's I win most of the times but with more then 1 then its becoming painfully when alone.
In discussions among ourselves, we in the GMG are pushing to have out own Kaichaou 'bomber' reclassified as a Strike Fighter - and the Granchou Freighter remade into a 'true' Bomber
Why? Because the GMG relies on our bombers to keep the hordes at bay.
We deliberately asked that use of heavy caps be removed from our ID to reflect this. We can only use gunboats at Guard ID level - and even then the official faction only has three on shared accounts.
Have a look at the thread concerning faster fighter weapons as a solution. And support the GMG in developing a Granchou replace that performs in a manner closer to the 'true' bomber that people envisage when they think of the very word.
Okay, I'm not sure if this has been said before. Before I say what I'm about to say, no, I am not a bomber pilot, and no, I also do not get SNACed repeatedly in my various fightercraft. That said, let's begin....
While I agree with the general consensus that anyone who takes a fighter against a bomber and comes out dead is doing it wrong, for the sake of roleplay purposes and overall realism, I do not believe a bomber should be able to insta-kill fighters, vessels specifically designed for dealing with bombers in the first place.
This is one of the possible solutions I've been thinking about, and the only actual realistic one.
Class 6 hull buster turrets/transformation of the SNAC into a shield buster.
These turrets would have a very slow projectile speed and refire rate, but would also deal ludicrous hull damage and would be the preferred method of taking down larger capital class vessels (Cruiser size and up).
Slow projectile speed would encourage the use of the currently underused Nova Torpedoes against smaller targets such as Transports and Gunboats, and the transformation of the SNAC into a shield buster should make fighter/bomber combat a little more realistic.
Edit: Lowered hull damage, didn't take the 4x guns into account.
That's a good start although I was considering them as missile/torpedo guns instead, hover this will encorage bomber pilots to make bombing run rather than chasing the caps at a safe distance then hitting in one shot with the second (third?) most powerful single shot weapons in Sirius. then hiding for just a few seconds and doing it again.
However seeing how these are "guns" (possibly four of them will be added on to your average bomber) they can still be abused as anti-fighter just as the SNAC was. Yes I know since they are guns they don't have the combined speed of the craft at firing + the speed of the projectile itself, but you can bet you'll still be seeing bombers jousting fighters with those weapons (probably after hours of practicing with very specialized weapon groups.)
I still think it's a very good idea and it should be considered without just yelling: Nerf this, no! Nerf that. But rather change the overall mechanics of using a bomber effectively in the first place.
edit: 945,000?
How much is the power plant for your average bomber anyways?
Yes, that's sort of the point. Shield runners are a bit of a problem when it comes to bombers. This will force them to keep a constant stream of fire. And I'm not sure about the energy, like I said, I'm not a bomber pilot. It's 3x the energy usage of an Archangel though.
Everyone just proved the original post. A bomber is NOT a fighter and should not be able to take on one and win!! I am sure the Japanese in there torpedo bombers in WWII just loved to see the American fighters coming so they could attack them!!
Bombers are made to bomb. Not space to space combat.

That's all good, but what about trying the bombers instead of powertrading? Bombers are fine as they are now.

Are you so sure that killing fighters are so easy in bombers? Man you're worng really.
I'm going to pay 50mill to anybody who rapes my Sabre with bomber. You, Tycho don't apply in the Dev Team! This gun is a bad joke. But if everybody wants it...we can do a great cap mod from Discovery it won't last as long as NSU. :(
I shall fight for caps so long as their is life... My 32 page Capital ship point defense thread was already a victory. (even though solaris are still useless and flaks suck unless the bomber practically rams you)
That leaves battle razors (which are great if you know how to use them, and there arent any enemy caps nearby to rape you, because BR's take up enormous amounts of energy...)
Anyways, I do not believe "Specialize or die" statement. Take my juggernaut for example.
I have two regular mortars, 2 flaks, 2 cerberus, a single battle razor, and 9 primaries.
Ive killed a Nomad Battleship, A mako that was doing a combat simulation with me, two Geb Light Carriers at the same time, and many more with this loadout. Although, I have not been in many battles with small ships primarilly attacking me.
And again, about the Bomber SN'ing fighters, Thats not the point of this thread. the point is that bombers survive too long against fighter escorts in a large battle. So much that the capital ship that they're escorting dies before the bombers do.
