Quote:One good question I saw was why would any one play anything but the jedi or a sith?
It's been discussed for months now on the tor forums. The game is set in a time period where there are -hundreds- of jedi and sith around. Naturally, with so many individuals, each is going to have less training and probably less experience than when you've only got a small handful of them.
Further, go back to the KOTOR 2 dialogue... kreia at one point says to atton "even you are, in some ways, more capable than any jedi could be, because you do not rely on the force"
Jedi are one trick ponies, they dont have street smarts, they dont have as much experience with real-world life as some other groups would. It's like taking a buddhist monk who has lived in a monastery in china for all of his life and throwing him into downtown new york, expecting him to be able to survive. He might survive, but he certainly wont be the most powerful bloke around.
Personally, I'm going bounty hunter, assuming they dont screw up the jetpack system.
See tanacity, we are going to havea long discussion about this..... I see what you are saying but there is a beast called meta gaming. Ignore it if you must, but online you will sub consiouly worry about it. (look around for the bomber discussion)
Any how. The question is that Jedi, aka the one trick ponies, who wouldnt want to play them. It will be interesting so see 85 percent of the server population being jedi.
My solution to this problem would be to control jedi population with masters giving force to the selected. The selected after giving the "seed" will haveto prove themselves to become a decent jedi aka trials. Losing in trials would actrually make them lose seed. Masters will have to have certain force points to spawn a padawan.
A jedi/sith power could be to sense force (imagine force sense from JA) the people who are potential Jedi would have a little glow in force sense. the more powerful the more the glow.
Again the general idea is not to dis jedi, but even in kotor, Jedi were relatively rare (not 90 percent of the population).
As for Atton, he was no ordinary individual either. He was force sensitive.
For sith I would have them fight each other for supremacy, you defeat a sith, you get some force talent point. The losing sith would lose some force powers (something that slowly increases as long as you are force sensitive irrelative of the level. one year to max out). Lord/apprentice relationships get a bonus. This way sith will remain hidden from each other and attack from shadow. They can chose to hide their force glow for a slower rate of regen. Give sith another personallity aside from the char with which they interact with others. So they are not readily identified by the jedi.
' Wrote:i'd say join the party....I think I wouldl make a good sith.
This is far from the star wars I envisioned. But I am not making this game.
One good question I saw was why would any one play anything but the jedi or a sith?
I envisioned Star wars mmo mechanics as such.
2 players will be chosen to be a Jedi or a sith. If they do not play those char for 30 days, re-seed. then if a jedi master trains a padawan, he give up half his force points. (They can be rebuilt ove time).
Sith however gain force points by killing other jedi and sith so technically they would be stronger in the long run.
Well Kreia also said that a jedi without the Force is nothing. A mere man, a woman or a child. If you train hard all your life, use devious tactics as Atton (gassing, poisioning, backstab) or just get really lucky you might kill a jedi. As Atton said, they aren't all that tough when you know how to approach them.
An example would be Mandalorians. They killed jedi, yet were not Force sensitive. Order 66. Clone troopers shot them up. Very devious of them.
But the best example is probably Battle Of Geonosis. A handful of jedi lost to hundred of war droids. The droids outnumbered the jedi, but they were still, only droids. The jedi were forming a defencive circle as the droids pushed them back. Only the timely arrival of reinforcments allowed them to regroup and claim victory with the help of clones, of course.
While playing KOTOR I remember dieing quite a lot (mostly because I put an emphasis on inteligence, charisma, other roleplaying attributes than always leveling up strength. Either way, if you're not strictly combat orentated you do die..mostly it's an 'oops, I shouldnt have underestimated a single mom'). The Mandalorian on Dantooine (main boss) got me 2 out of 3 times. The third time I went in prepared, set up some mines, used stealth generator and got the upper hand in the end, but damn that Mandalorian was a tough nut!:D
I would get shot by blasters too. An embarassing end for a jedi, but it was my oown fault for being so cocky and turning onto seven double-vibro bladed mercenaries... ( I did take down at least 3-4 with me though, so yay!:D)
Now in reality (as real as science fiction can get) my puny jedi would have died before he faced all of the trials to actually become a jedi.
Think about a level 6 - 8 jedi in KOTOR/KOTOR 2 (I personally enjoyed second the most). There are (possibly) a lot more of simple minded padawans than Jedi Masters. Not all feel the force as easily as Darth Vader. I imagine channeling is quite hard. A struggle to some, who are Force sensitive, but do not possess the talent of Anakin. Much like the Disciple from KOTOR 2.
However, jedi/sith are in no way weak. They might match a very good soldier at the beggining of their journey, but Jedi have limitless possibilities. Their growth is beyond limits (much like in Matrix, heh?). Eventually they become so strong that they do not need to worry about blasters, grenades or even proton devices. The only other adversary can be another powerful Jedi, because no matter how good a perfect Bounty Hunter is - he still has limits.
and hence some of my ideas how this would have been worked out.
don't forget starwars Galaxies and the legion of Jedi's that f*ked the whole game up
Another thing I would add that a Jedi master can spawn several apprentice over time but a sith lord could spawn only one. Also if Jedi fall to sith they gain these points, if sith are saved they lose points.
