When a private organization begins taking over from a governments job, in this case enforcing the law, as a company, profits are the primary objective to remain viable as an entity. This can lead to cuts and/or under the table deals with either the government, or other corporate or even in the worst case scenario criminal organizations to maintain the cash flow.
This is also a problem since officers are paid by the hour, and not by their arrest rate.
Okay then, I wont read pages 3-5 since I'm too lazy but...
Allow me to wall of text this thread and win it. Currently server-wise RP, Bretonia and Liberty are butt-buddies. We jointly-enforce Magellan and Cortez, we are practically the Sirius equivalent of UKUSA. Liberty is also the most powerful house, followed by Bretonia, Kusari/Rheinland, Rheinland/Kusari. Probably the only reason that Kusari is winning the war - Isolationism, they practically have little piracy and most unlawful factions are in with the government.
Bretonia on the other hand is plagued by Corsairs and etc, whilst Kusari seems at best the most peaceful house for the government atleast. Kusari though theoretically weaker, has the advantage of bringing their full might to bear.
Rheinland is a military state, its economy is technically weak but its main focus is the Third Reich's militarism. They have a wealth of natural metals and etc allowing them to aggressively and easily build up war machines. In addition to being able to 'secretly' siphon H-Fuel from some of the Sigma systems under the guise of the 'ALG'. Basically, Rheinlands main focus is its self-sustaining Military. In a sense that it reroutes most of its otherwise civic funds, to the Military.
Now then, let me introduce you to the time of World War II.
The Russians - The great bear of the north that stopped Germany, could not have done it without the United States. We practically gave them all of their factories and etc, we made everything for them. If the United States did not give Russia logistical support during WW2, they would have crumpled.
Liberty is currently the most powerful house in Sirius. It has several things that the other houses don't. In the SP Campaign, it had breezed through Kusari and had already forced Rheinland back to New Berlin by the time Trent got to the Dyson Sphere and escaped Kusari. In the SP Campaign, they had enough resources to do a SYSTEM wide dragnet and seemingly with little things spent on their part. The main gun of the Siege-Cruiser was also highly sought after and presumably one of the most advanced pieces of equipment in Sirius. Liberty had the resources and even MANAGED to find a way for cloaking to be possible, though they needed a very large amount of power. Nonetheless, they had the resources to do such research AND build things like the Osiris, dragnet the system and etc... and still steamroll over two houses like butter.
The Liberty Government unlike Rheinland, has some of the most powerful companies in Sirius - Cryer, Ageira. Their police force, the LPI is privately owned and operated. And with the large levy of taxes for the consumer goods that the LPI ships out, Liberty basically doesn't need to pay for police - Infact the police force pays it.
Now then, lets look at Kusari's so called 'economic gate' - They lacked metals to produce their things much, they get everything they need because they ship H-Fuel out. If they stopped shipping H-Fuel, they would kill themselves. It even says so in SP, granted things have changed - Kusari would be running off of fumes if they stopped shipping H-Fuel out. Let alone, would the GMG really stand by and let Kusari say "You cannau make any moar moneeee."
The GMG would frankly be pissed and co-operate with Bretonia or another house so they can make money again.
As for Liberty supporting Bretonia somehow; I can see it only selfishly or for some other reason. Per se there was campaigning for an intervention in the war in order to safely assure that certain universal laws are kept in check and that people receive things such as Food, Water, Medical Supplies and etc. I could possibly see Liberty doing such if somebody that has sway in Liberty asked them to. I mean if Bretonia petitioned Liberty to do something, I could see a third-party organization working for Liberty providing such. Liberty has resources, they have man-power but I doubt they would spare it. A third-party organization can be easily and successfully funded by the Liberty Government to conduct operations within the Tau's to ensure that basic humanitarian needs are met and that the civilian populace in this 'war' are respectfully treated.
I think I've made my case - If there was a pulling factor for Liberty to get into this war, IE: Improve their reputation or face with others or their own citizens, I could see them possibly taking a UN job - More on Humanitarian and less on peacekeeping.
I for one would be interested in seeing some type of 'Mercenary' army hired to transport goods and provide basic security services. I would venture to say that the Roleplay would be quite nice and enjoyable.
Though if I recall when Petraeus tried to do this - The KNF ended up renouncing good will and were seemingly bloodthirsty.

Do I have to remake the 522nd and camp Gamma? I did enjoy having the five of us walk out with two dozen Corsairs dead.
It was one of my favorite past times - But in all honesty, what I said was true. Liberty is a powerwhore and a powerhouse.

' Wrote:Of course low level officers take bribes, thats a problem in every police force in Sirius except, I think, the KSP.
KSP, not corrupt? *coughs*Hogosha*coughs*.
The KSP is moderately corrupt, the LPI extremely so, whereas the BPA equals your standard modern police force and the RSP is fascist, but appears to be pretty averse to bribery and non-state-authorized crime. At least that's what I understand from following player RP and ingame rumors.
To reinforce my point: just think of it. The Navy's main purpose is protecting Liberty's economic wellbeing, the government is controlled by all sorts of business suits (and we all ought to know that when state and commerce mix, nothing good can come out of it); heck, Liberty hands out one of a state's most important roles, law enforcement, to a for-profit company (as Fletcher already mentioned). Read the rumors; I recall one on Trafalgar which indicated high-level corruption among it, if player lore isn't enough for you.
