Through some wonderful new tools developed by Cannon we're able to tinker around with in game infocards. This time we're adding a forum notice. But if you restart Freelancer you'll note that a new news item is currently available for your viewing pleasure.
We plan to make good use of this in the future to coordinate special ingame events.
So, without further ado. A humble trial run event.
This is an excellent use of the bar rumors. Adding current events like this will encourage people who ordinarily wouldnt read bar rumors to do so, helping their immersion and RP knowledge. It will especially be useful in multi-part events like the Reconquista, giving updates on how the campaign is going. Kudos on adding this.
' Wrote:Yes, I've manipulated sale prices. Water sells very well right now.
Can you do this dynamically? Without a patch/restart/<strike>lagpocalypse</strike> 'Dark matter wave'?
Becauuuuse if you can, then isn't it conceivable that prices could vary based on what's bought/sold, therefore permanently removing the concept of a 'trade route' and making trading much more interesting and rewarding?
It has to be done manually. I can adjust prices at the push of a button. The only thing that requires a restart at the moment is the news.
As to dynamic, no.
Xoria built a really really great commodity system which does a fantastic job at simulating supply and demand within a static environment. Tools like this are best for isolated events.
It was built as a debugger, just putting it to its full use.
Edit: This is just a test run of both the new news and commodity systems. I just wanted to skyline the event to get maximum participation in light of the tools being previously unknown to the bulk of the community.
