Admin Notice: Server hosting and denial of service attack

Wait...WHAT!!!!! :(Ive been away for a couple of days reformatting and havn't been able to go on FL. Why am I always gone when something happens :laugh:

So let me get this straight:

1] Severs down
2] Random dudes from the server providers are attacking the community with spam.
3] We are having to find a new server

Im always going to miss that old server *sniff*...more than 2 years ago now I first set foot on her *tear*

In a more serious manner:

1] Can the server location not be in Europe because that is just about as far as you can get from New Zealand. United States would be fine.
2] Is Majkp going to somehow backup all of our chars' on a memory stick or something? Because as far as I know, the server holds all our chars

Hmm now ive got nothing to play because BF2142 is glitching up too (dam you EA).....Crysis anyone?

They will just transfer the data to the new server.

The server will be down for a while we sort out a new host. Probably back in a week but we're not rushing it. All characters are nice and safe. If we really wanted to we could bring it back up today but we want to get this right.

Woah. This was happening on my old WoW server recently, so I quit for awhile, take a break. And then...this comes crashing down too!

We will aim to host the server in Europe as there are several Discovery servers in the US already. If you need a server close to NZ try Archie's Portal.

We have backups...both on site and off. We can use the "internet" to move the character files around and the post office if we need to move the hardware. In addition the server itself is physically fine. Our problem is the internet connection to the server.

So are we EVER going to use Majkp as a server again? It is free and good, so why look for a new one? Are the police in on this? If they are, why not have them monitor traffic on Majkp's server if he brings it up, so they can figure out who the DDOSer is?
