SUCH NERVE!
HOW DARES THE GAME THROW A CHALLENGE AT ME! I PROTEST! I'M REVOLTED! I WILL... I'LL... I'LL....
I'LL USE CHEATS!
HAHAHAHAHA!
See kids, here's the deal. Cheats suck. They teach you only one thing. That there's always an easy way out of a problem. There's such ways in real life, did you know? Overabuse of alcohol and drugs. Why break up with your gf when you can cheat on her? Why argue with wife when you can smack her twice?
Wow amazing. How dares that guy cut in front of you!? YOU'RE ANGRYYYYY NOW! And invincible as well, because most people are too spineless to confront you. Well, not here no.
Cruiser as an escort? Wow. You're totally right. That surely won't attract 7 skilled players to completely own you and your transport. Because when you tend to boast how awesome you are, you actually pull the devil by his horn. By devil I mean all the people that are skilled but usually tired. Tired because of mediocrity the community as whole tends to emit from the daily gameplay.
I can name few, easily. You can too. Look at the small skirmish pirate groups that don't have official faction. Behind those names and that swift and savage snacing they offer are probably expert players, leaders and rest of their keen mind that hope to wake up some things.
Like Dusty did with the mining pirate group.
Like Xeno Alliance reigned SNACs around.
I went bit off topic.
Here's the deal. People that complain without offering alternative should be shot. Twice.
People that cheat should be reported. I play with some people, even skilled players, like... alot more skilled than I am in PVP and whatnot. They don't report players. It just sucks. They say "they don't care"
That should change. With indifference you sink down to mediocrity.
Guys...
Don't be indifferent. Use the downtime to think about things you can pull off. Join some new factions. Dedicate yourself to few characters and play them proudly. Have your vent character where you can be a jerk.
Be active.
Anyway, complaining without offering an alternative is fine. If you spot a problem without being able to offer people an alternative make people aware of it. They might be able to come up with an alternative.
I have not reported anyone once either, and it is not because of indifference.

The thing of escorting is not to anihilate all pirates along the way, but to win some time for trader to pass. Read the thread before posting !
please read the thread yourself before replying. yo'll notice that I have already replied before...
what I mean: they can't eliminate the threat fast enough. so the pirate bomber can just keep blasting the trader while not having to worry about being shot too pieces anytime soon. that's my point.
and I wish I had a sarcam button in my keyboard...
I cannot believe that people thought I was serieus about a cruiser as escort:lol:
let me rephrase:
the only effective escort is a full solaris cruiser... *BARF* *PUKE* *PLEASE GOD NO* :P:D:lol::crazy::P:P:yahoo::nyam: olololol
Em, as from what I red its written that escorts job is not protect trader in a fight, but not allow the pirate to engage the transport. Not allow him to go in contact to start actually blasting it. And you are writing that fighters can't take bomber fast enought (they can, if you are skilled enough, and your trader guy is not total nub) until it finished off thet rader. The point is not to allow the pirate bomber to go in contact, so you do not need to hurry it shooting while it fires snac's :rtfm:
Actually, if you think complaining without solutions that puts you in the same bag with the starting inexperienced players by my book. Sorry but for someone with so many posts, I'ld expect at least third to be useful at handing out some skills, so far, all the posts I've read from you were usually snide comments that produced nothing useful in the discussion.
besides, pointing out a problem and complaining isn't a same thing. you know it.
I mean, it's not even an argument against my thoughts, that would indicate you disagree. No it's just a snide comment made because our rp views clash.
I really envy your free time you're spending here. You must have alot of it if you can play actively over.. let's say, 5 different characters. And I don't mean different as DSE miner / DSE escort / DSE trader being 3, but with 5 different factions / mindsets.
I'm not against variety, but my opinion is that you can contribute more if you pick few roles and stick with them. Until you find one, feel free to explore. This game is sandbox game people. You're given a world, and from there you can change it. Do not expect admins to change it constantly when you can do so as well.
It' pretty much up to the miner/trader to choose whether or not to hire escorts. It's a calculated risk, not necessarily a sign of RP deficiency. If you're going to beat miners/traders with the Greedy Club, you could beat a few pirates/terrorists with it while you're at it.
Escorts do work, but they are definitely not a silver bullet to the pirate's werewolf. If the pirate/terrorist is bent on destroying the trader, he'll very likely succeed. If you manage to employ an an armada, it will concursely eat a good chunk of your profits. Convoying with other traders is fun, but you still need escort cover, especially if there's no Shires in your convoy. On that note, it would really be nifty (well, not so nifty for the bad guys) if other houses had access to large transports with multiple turrets, like the Bretonia Shire and the Kusari CT.
I, at least, have dificulty finding reliable escorts in game within a reasonable time frame. In those cases I just haul the goods myself and take my chances. If I get zapped, I don't complain if everything happened in a spirit of good sportmanship and roleplaying.
Now, how to define good sportsmanship and its relationship to roleplaying, now that is a subject for another thread entirely. And likely not one to find any consensus on, since many in our community see themselves as setting the gold standard for both.

if the fight has started, and the pirate is close enough, 3 fighters can blast away and still not be able to prevent the pirate's bombing runs on the trader. it's basically the same discussion as with battleships and escorts vs a bomberwing.
escorts can be effictive, if they manage to avoid a fight by warning the trader or blowing up the pirate before their escortee even gets there.
so escorts job is to direct the attention from trader letting him pass. And teh "fight" thing wasnt even mentioned in thsi thread.
Besides, sorry but 1 fighter and 1 trader can blast a bomber. Ir depends on skill. People tend to make unbelievable things. And to support thsi idea I might remind you about:

the fight thing was in fact mentioned. it wasn't until Dusty posted his reply that the attention shifted towards avoidance.
anyway, enough of this useless back and forth yapping.
escorts can scout ahead, and are thus usefull. if a fight does erupt with the trader caught in the middle, there is a very high probability that the junkers have a job to do.
As a trader and pilot of two different 5k transport ships, having been on the wrong end of several encounters with trigger-happy pirates, I say with certainty that escorts make more sense in RP than they do in game terms.
If a trader isn't giving up what a greedy pirate wants, he's going to be the first one shot down. Everytime. You'd have to be a damn terrible pirate to let a 5k transport get away before you get your blue message. I see no reason to pay out of my profits that I made from my own free time, to pay someone to follow me around and at best, get revenge on a bloodthirsty pirate. If I run into an unreasonable pirate, I'm losing all my time and profits to begin with.
Note this applies to the particularly greedy pirate encounters. When I actually get some RP and a decent demand, 500k - 2 mil, I am happy to type out that givecash command and play along for the fun of it. Hell, that right there is what most escorts expect for payment, they don't get to the end of the route and say "Oh well you made a lot more off that ore so I'm gonna need like 18 mil more..." in terms of comparing players, a pirate is no more deserving of a higher pay. Equal pay for equal work, a pirate did nothing but sit there waiting for a meal ticket. An escort does nothing more than fly a routes in a far more agile and defendable ship.
If the ore in question was obtained via the method desired by the mod creators, that is in a team as an organization, then the nice fat check gotten at the end point is already getting divided up upon cashing in. Paying miners, the faction and so on. If you think I'm paying a pirate for half an hours work out of an hour mining, go ahead and blow me up because I'd rather make nothing than let their grubby hands touch it.
In conclusion, I recognize the points you wish to bring up Ivan, and I respectfully disagree with them on account of it being an insufficient solution to a growing problem.
