ok. here's the main issue i see with the ads being here. PAy-per-click brings up a lot of things like, well...
  • male enhancement
  • FREE ANTIVIRUZ WAAXZAAA
  • Pirate sites
  • Get a loan (from some obscure site)
do we really want a page full of this crap?

I'm sure we would find ads that are for games and things, not including the above.

I think this is a great idea.

You don't even need to get the admins to set it up, whoever has the inclination or expertise can set it up and have the payout go to the Disco server donation Paypal account.

You would of course need the admins approval to start such a thread. Perhaps an ad revenue sub-forum would be better than a thread though. People like misternerdguy who are offended by the idea need not even go into the ad revenue sub-forum.

I think I'll put some research into this, since I accidentally got the day off... oversleeping instead of college isn't good for my health.

To the internet!

EDIT: After a little dig, I found the obvious one:
Adsense - Google

And a not so obvious one:
http://www.gameads.com/

However, I think both of these need to be embedded on the website head section. Therefore, we can make a new webpage that can only be found by clicking links on a forum link, and/or on the Discovery website itself, under something like Support the mod or something.

We just need to remember to click them daily is all.

Revenue = server upkeep = server stability/performance/upgrades

Sure, why not.

just name it 'our sponsors' and have it pinned and locked. that way it might look fine for the companies that actually have their ad here.

It has to be done. With times getting harder, server costs only hurt more, and donations come in slower. With Majkp no longer being able to host us, the importance of money is even more drastic.

It's worth a try, but from previous experience google is very strict on users asking visitors to click on their ads. If google finds out, the adsense account could be suspended. I think general ads around the site are better. They don't have to be banner ads, or picture ads, they could be simple text ads incorporated within the forum layout. I've seen many forums do that without compromising the usability of the forum.

try to find ads that could be of use to the people that loiter here.

make the ads targeted at nerds and young adults, that way the ads might actually be of use, maybe.

possibly ads about assorted computer nonsense, pretty shirts and geeky things, because we don't give a flying fridge about home-lones and life insurance.

as long as there's no adventure quest i'm in.
