Well I've heard about that from a molly and since then I've spread the word. And I've stayed away from corsairs, of course.

When the server is up you'll see me back out there again. I love my Gaian char [NLH]-Lurue but I'm on irregularly, which is to the benefit of some other players I guess. See, I've always played my Gaian as a terrorist and have never pirated for money once as he is exceptionally rich already, it's about the cause. I target specific ID's and cargos and unfortinately for the recipient there is only a small room for getting out alive without a battle as my demands may be excessive or outrageous in their scope. In RL I've returned to job as security for the regional development corp and my schedule is back to being at any hour so you'll see me at some point in any time zone, if there are any Gaians on at the time I love to bring them along to join me in my rhetoric and ensuing chaos :P

I kind of share Drake's point of view. Thanks for the notice, that they could use some more love. They live in rather nice systems. I'm going to create a Gaian in the future, the way I think a Gaian should be. Let's see how that works!

I think the Gaians suffer because of the war. Trade is difficult now through there except for smugglers. Most of them cut through Baffin and miss Bretonia all together. A few jump straight into Newcastle again missing most of Bretonia and staying mostly off the beaten track. Mollys have very little for a similar reason.
If the Mollys' gold was illegal in the various systems, but earnt them BIG credits somewhere like Sigma 17, then things would become more interesting. Smugglers and escorts, police and military (but this isn't about the Mollys).
As I recall it, one of the better short trade routes was through California (Rogues), Magellan (Hackers) and Leeds(Mollys/Gaians/Buccaneers) and then back again. Many a pirate was able to line their pockets on that route.

If/when Gallia opens up and trade starts to flow down through Bretonia and into Sirius (not forgetting Kusari), the Gaians will get a lot more business, although the gaurd system position is a pain as it could be a potential cut through. Being a gaurd system, it will put off most people risking it.

The BAF have (had?) a huge military force and were generally able to meet any pirate threat so they can be easily entertained by Gaians. The Buccaneers operate in Bretonian waters and despite my own feelings that the Mollys allegiances are a little muddled, they have the potential for great fun when trade begins to flow.

Suck it and see regarding Galiia I suppose...

I said this before (even recently somewhere) but I'll hop up & say it again:

There's a fundamental division within the faction between the stereotypical Corsair allied Neo-Gaian & the old school Grass Roots Gaian. This is because the Gaians became militant only 77 years ago & it's logical that many of the people that started the transition to ideological violence would still be alive today & hold some sway within Gaian society.

It's also logical that those original Gaians who have become enemys of the gov't & obviously no longer have the right to dock on any planet within its borders, would spend the rest of their lives living on Gaian stations. They would have produced offspring, & by now, would have produced offspring of their own. These 2nd & 3rd generation station natives, having never had the opportunity of enjoying legal Bretonian citizenship & having lived their entire lives outside the law on Gaian property, would be heavily indoctrinated with the old-school mentality they were raised with by their parents & elders...& they would not have any patriotic leanings to the crown whatsoever. & Why should they? The're natural born fugitives from the Law. They would have developed a unique culture of their own, isolated from the rest of Bretonian society. & that isolation would intensify their already extremist point of view.

Then, here come the pro Corsair Neo-Gaians that move into the stations & as time goes on, the Neo-Gaians begin to outnumber the natives & the fundamental differences between them would create an extremely deep sense of bitterness & loathing towards the neo-gaians as their larger numbers & piracy all but flushed the original Gaian ideals down the toilet in the eyes of the public.

So, now the war starts, & althogh Kusari has interests that work against the Gaians, during a time of war, they side with what they consider the lesser of 2 evils with the full intention of dealing with those conflicts when/if Kusari emerges as the victor. but under Kusari rule, they would be much better off than they are now, & ultimately, they know they will never stop fighting, only the eyeshape of their enemies would change.

As far as support from a segment of bretonian citizens, although the war would lessen that quite a bit, the Green Front are polititians & pundints that get regular media coverage & they lie their ass off for a living, so given human nature, there will be always be people that believe anything they hear without giving it any real critical thought just so long as the propagandist appears professional on camera & speaks with eloquence & authority.

Besides, unless/until Igiss mandates a change to the basic Gaian info, we have to all deal with what we got weither we can all agree on it or not.

One thing that strikes me as a bit odd though is that "change" of sides. Gaians were, at its core, pro-Bretonian, right? For a better, cleaner, terraforming-free Bretonia, right? If memory serves me right, they had a number of supporters throughout Bretonia (more specifically Cambridge), sympathetic to the Gaian cause. Well, with they actively supporting Kusari in the war, wouldn't this cause the Gaians to loose all of this support? Unless the "Neo-Gaians" outnumber the old school ones so much that it would have influence in such a decision that hardly seems like the wisest decision to take...

I'm sorry, but the idea of the Green Front having any semblance of support left after what the Gaians have done is laughable. They're a political party that people know is directly/indirectly associated with a terrorist group that is helping an invading force kill their soldiers.

I'd be willing to bet that the Green Front's political influence is into the negative numbers - people will rally against their proposals, just because they made it.

Also, we need more Gaian bad guys. No-one seems to want to play them. At the moment, the minority hardcore is something like 90% of the player population...

There is not a single thing in the Gaian infocard that suggests they are 'pro-bretonian' in any way. They were cambridge scientists that went militant, & being an eco-group in a space faring civilization, 'environment' includes space as well as land...because the gaians were never intended to be anything other than shallow filler outside of the main storyline, they are tiny & centered where they are. If the Gaians had the freedom to expand outside Bretonia they would fight for the eco-system no matter where they are...& nationality has no relevance whatsoever.

Lets face it, because they lack a compelling backstory & are called the Gaians simply because that's what the developers wanted to call 'em before they moved on to other parts of the project they deemed more important. With the little infocard we have to work with, there ain't much a person can do with 'em unless they fill in the blanks with what is already given. Many people don't give them much thought beyond what's offered, play as a gaian for a while & get bored only to dump them and go make a character in a faction that has a richer story to it (& therefore, more members) & that's why Gaians have never become significant ::shrug::

So, if we ever get the go ahead to update the basic infocard then that is one of the things that should change for the sake of realism, but that's not present reality. Until that day we can change it, the green front will commonly be seen on the news & enjoy more support within society than the mollies as a portion of the bretonian gov't tolerates them in order to not antagonize their Cambridge constituents...besides, this is freelancer & we are surrounded on all sides by unrealisim::
