When you say 'full of crap' you make it sound like there's no room for anything else. One thing TV has in common with soccer is that on the whole, there are more crappy teams than good ones...so, one could (if one were so inclined) use your same logic & say that Soccer Sucks & conclude that the entire sport is 'full of crap' without ever bothering to notice any of the good teams out there.
I mean, sure, TV has alot of crap on it & it's akin to a cow patty minefield, but you seem to miss the point here: There's alot of great stuff on there too. Sure, sometimes a person will end up stepping on a bad show & wretch from the smell of it as they scrape it off their boot, but feel free to use this thread as a map past the crap & straight to the 'good s***':P
Zachary Levi (Less Than Perfect) plays Chuck Bartowski, a nerdy computer tech who has a database of government secrets downloaded into his brain. Chuck soon finds himself recruited by John Casey (Adam Baldwin), a veteran NSA Agent, for espionage work with his new partner (and first date in 10 years) Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) - leading Chuck to live a split life of computer geek and secret NSA missions.
Already about 5 episodes deep, White Collar is worth the time:cool:
This is a new show that premiered on Friday, October 23rd on USA Network at 10 PM. It is about a convicted white collar criminal who winds up working for the FBI man who caught him. To stay out of prison, convicted bond forger Neal Caffrey offers to help the FBI capture other white collar criminals using his expertise as an art and securities thief, counterfeiter and racketeer.
If it wasn't for programs like Hustle & Leverage paving the way, this show wouldn't exist...but so far, I like this show...ALOT & it has potential to develop into something very 'effin cool. Check it out for yourselves.
& after 9 seasons, I've finally gotten off my duff & started to watch 'Smallville'...I've made it into season 4 so far, & although the 'villian of the week' motief gets on my nerves, the origin sidestory with Jor-El keeps me coming back for more in a vein-slapping, junkie-like 'marathon-style'
The series i currently watch, are already mentioned, but i do have a few older series that are worth watching. Sadly enough, most of them were cancelled due to bad insight of the media.
John Doe: John Doe is an intelligent adventure series, named after the main character, albeit not by name: 'John Doe' is called thus because nobody knows the name of the man who literally fell from the sky, naked, in the sea near an obscure island. When Far Eastern fishermen save him, it soon becomes clear his memory is in a paradoxical state: he has total amnesia concerning his own past, even his real name, but has more factual knowledge stored in his brain then even the Google computer banks on every possible other subject, as if he had memorized the Library of Congress, so one rarely needs to read anything when he's around. He also is intelligent and inquisitive enough to understand and use much of that knowledge, and keeps rolling into all kinds of weird mysteries, teaming up with various characters, each of which must first be convinced he's legit, such as police detectives Frank Hayes and Jamie Avery, but gets frustrated by finding his own story the most elusive, probably linked to some secret experiment
I remember this as being one of the most exciting tv-shows i ever saw. Unfortunately it got cancelled after only 1 season already. The media found it strange that ratings dropped after moving it's schedule for the fifth time. The end of season one contains one of the best cliffhangers.
Invasion: In the aftermath of a hurricane, a Florida Park Ranger and his family deal with strange occurrences, including luminescent creatures in the water and people that somehow seem to have changed after surviving the night of the disaster out in the open.
Yet another show that got cancelled way before it ended. The show is set in a town that has to deal with an alien invasion. It contains quite a lot of drama and good acting. The cliffhanger at the end leaves you begging for more, and sadly enough that feeling will never go away.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: From the creators of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), this series is set after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991). After the sacrifices of Dr. Miles Dyson and T-800 Model 101 Terminator, the Connors find themselves once again being stalked by Skynet's agents from the future. Realizing their nightmare isn't over, they decide to stop running and focus on preventing the birth of Skynet. With the aid of Cameron Phillips, a beautiful girl who has a mysterious past also linked to the future; Derek Reese, a Tech-Com soldier from the future whose past is linked with the Connors; Riley, a beautiful schoolfriend of John; and FBI Agent James Ellison, who was assigned to capture the Connors but joins them after his own encounter with one of the machines. They begin a quest to stop the United States military and a shadowy conspiracy from the future from creating the program that will stop at nothing to bring humanity to an end.
As with most good shows, this show got cancelled also, but this time it managed to last untill season 2. I remember this show to have it's ups and downs, but overall it's a nice watch.
Firefly: Mal Reynolds was a Sargent in the war fighting for the Independance side. When the Independance lost to the Alliance Mal bought a transport ship named Serenity. Now with his crew, Zoe his first mate and fellow army veteran, Zoes husband Hoban 'Wash' Washbourne the pilot, a tough guy named Jayne, a beautiful 'campanion' Inara, a young mechanic Kaylee, a preacher called Shepard Book, a doctor named Simon and his psychic sister River who are on the run from the law, they all must do legal and illegal jobs to make a living while trying to stay under the Alliances radar. They do what they have to do to survive but are constantly getting into trouble.
I doubt anyone in here hasn't seen it already, but i mention it anyway, just in case there exist such lost soul. I don't know why you are still reading my comments about Firefly though.. Go! Watch it! Now!! Make sure to watch serenity afterwards.
The 4400: These are the stories of 4400 abductees after they are returned to Earth. People dealing with traumatic changes, driven by the mystery of what happened and why. Some of them have been affected in mysterious ways, and some will have certain abilities, both good and bad. The pilot has a ball of light sailing towards Earth. But rather than the expected catastrophic event, thousands of returned abductees are left with no memory of their otherworldly experiences. Each has been gone anywhere from a few months to several decades but hasn't aged a day.
I like to see this as the predecessor of "Heroes", although it differs from that a lot too. This series lasted for 4 seasons until it got cancelled. In a way i can see why this happened, the show got really slow after the first season, but even at a slow pace, it was exciting enough for me to stay hooked. When the story was finally growing to immense proportions it got cancelled.
The lost room: A Policeman uncovers a key while working on a murder case. The key can open every door and take him into a motel room, but if you leave there something that doesn't belong to you- it will be gone as soon as the room "restarts"... He discovers that there are objects hidden in whole the world. They don't look special, but they have special powers. When his daughter is kidnapped and he is framed for killing his partner, he must find a way to bring her back from the room, while working with different groups and men searching for all the objects. But who can he really trust when everybody goes crazy once touching the objects...
I remember this series as being very exciting, but for some reason i can't remember much of it. Maybe i should rewatch it some time to refresh my memory.
After BSG ended I was really disappointed with the ending but overall it was an amazing series, the only shows I've been watching right now are Supernatural and Stargate Universe.
I've just finished watching the Sons of Anarchy season 2 finale, & Oh-moi-effin'-gawd!
What a kick ass rollercoaster ride it's been.
From the first episode, pressure has been building in the cooker & it never let up. Then, when 12 episodes of pent up rage finally comes to a satisfying head & starts to tie up all its loose ends in the 13th...something else comes out of a sidestory & completely unravels at your feet, setting up what will be an even better fist-pumping ride next year.
I've always really liked the show, but as of now, SOA is, in my mind, the best thing TV has to offer

Watched the series and the movie, loved it. Been watching Castle, a murder mystery show, which also stars Nathan Fillion.

They're coming out with the Cylon's side BSG, as well as the earlier days of BSG. Hopefully Caprica will be decent.
Stargate Universe: Not what I expected, though it has potential. Never-the-less I think it's a great show.
Currently I've been watching Trauma, Castle, Stargate Universe, and FlashForwards. All of which are good.

Been watching it after Monk every week. Good show. Did you watch the Monk finale?
I'm so behind in SOA. Gonna have to go binge on it over winter break.
Did I mention Deadwood yet?
It's one of those shows that never really got the proper kudos it deserved. It ain't for kids by a longshot & because of the antiquated style of dialogue, you gotta be pretty sharp in the brain department just to follow it...but if it can hook you, you will forevermore look at it as some of the best drama ever seen on the small screen.
& Speaking of Deadwood, 'Justified' is on deck to premiere this winter & I have high hopes for this one. Timothy Olyphant (Sheriff Bullock from Deadwood) stars as Marshal Raylan Givens, a modern-day lawman with a 19th-century attitude. Based on an Elmore Leonard character, Givens employs a brash brand of justice that makes him a target of criminals, so his marshal superiors relocate him to his hometown.
I mean, c'mon...it's an Elmore Leonard character, it's automatically got cool already built into it
