I happened to fight 1vs3 of them recently and I thought I'd get blasted, I didn't but that was mostly due to something what I'd call pilot errors
1. among those 3 LFs they had ONE shieldbuster, so they actually had big trouble downing the shield
2. 2 of them died to own mines - dropping nuke when you don't have shield and enemy has a CD is a bad idea

I think i said it before, all lightfighters mk2 need 4x9 guns, to be really effective.
size is ok for the lighties, they dont get hit that often in a fight, cause they are that damn fast.
But you need swarms of them, it takes even 3 LF at least half an hour to take down a HF (had that twice with phantoms versus a switchblade), taking out a bomber? only if he keeps flying into you mines, else, no.
I really, really, really wish that when it came to simple things like talking about balancing ships that it didn't turn into some kind of opportunity to brag about what wonderful pilots we all are and how the reason people are such nubtards is because they haven't got the skills to pilot a ship let alone eat a cheese sandwich.
Sure, anyone who doesn't realise that if you fly unshielded in one and hit a mine you will die needs some lessons.
Sure, it takes a different set of skills to realise that flying a LFer means you have to use its manouverability and shield.
Sure, you have to check you have the right weapons loaded.
Sure, you have to actually have some experience with flying with a group to realise the potential of one of these.
But as I said, there are FIFTEEN of them on the server. The average player who tries this ship doesn't like it. If we want to make these ships more attractive to the average player (rather than say a gunship or, oh dear, a cruiser) then perhaps we could actually engage in balancing-type discussion rather than a series of reminiscences about how great we all are.
For example, when you fought them, what were you in? Would you say the pilots could have tried different approaches or were the ship's problems the contributing factor? How many fights were there?
I think the ship is fine. Damage output is a problem for all light fighters. A pair or even three flown by competent pilots should do fine and would easily tackle a bomber, so long as they dont get bored of plugging away at the massive hull. Soloing a gunboat will be challenge. That we all know. But any muppet can drop twenty or thirty nuke mines and instakill these ships. The question is, I suppose, is can light fighter pilots live with that. Should it get enough armour to survive one nuke mine or would that mean that any intended boost to damage output would have to be foregone?
People talking about light fighters. Things sure have changed here on Walton mountain.

Surely, when balancing, you have to take pilot skill into the equation... They were most likely all newbies, and I think they definetly were considering the lack of shieldbusters... Why don't you set up a controlled test and try it out?
Somehow I felt that the discussion might have started because of that encounter, that's why I brought it up. It was also the only encounter with 4.85 Sea Serpent I ever had outside testing.
Because this is a balance thread I didn't write whom did I fight, what I was in or how it ended. Balance threads around here kind of work like that - player X: "I kill people in mine".. player Z:"They die rather easily" etc etc.
I wish there was a balance discussion that didn't turn into random flames by either:
a) people that own the ship/weapon
or
b) people that fight against it
Those stop the discussion to me, random "bragging" rather moves it forward. *

Could you please go one balance thread without an outburst? All I did was suggest what you should do to test these claims. Every story has at least a grain of truth somewhere in it.
Since someone has decided to edit his post, I edited mine.

Only LF that barely survives a nuke is a Hyena and that one really just barely, small scratch and it explodes.
Don't see why Sea Serpent should be like that when it's smaller than Hyena.
Same would go for the torp slot.
One way to avoid "self" kills from own nukes is to use Rippers or Screamers on LFs. Rippers track better than nukes and with Screamers it even poses threat to GBs.
All in all I'd avoid any changes to specific LFs until after next update and the powerplant changes are in place. Possible even wait until the cruise is in place.
