hmmm, this remindes me of two pirates I met who were using pirate trains... "tax or die!" okok, here are 5 million, but leave me alone!" "we will think about it"... "no, we wont, drop all cargo or die, you have 5 sec"... "are you joking man?" "engaging!" boom.
yeah, happy cargo pirating. I would take normal pirating over that any day.
' Wrote:...actually, piracy in freelancer is pretty much like real-world-piracy.
I would like to take whole cargo, whole ship and it's crew later demand for ransom if anyone wants to see them alive.
Nah it's far from real life. But agian, it's fl.
Yes piracy should take everything not just a littile part. But we must keep in mind that some realistic stuff might ruin game fun. So well, we get along with it.

I mean, if they'd die, they loose their ship (it's transformed into something smaller...such as starflea). I'd totally be for that. We could have insurance companies then, escorts would be more used, no more silent traders, no more AFKing in space (I'm looking at you reav!!), no more "killz me, iz cheeper" , probably less UAU8 spam, more retreating instead of "pvp? 1v1? kk pew pew" and it would take longer to get to 'endgame' part where you just powertrade so you could buy every capital ship in game. More of it, it would probably discourage lolwuts from lolwutting around.
I mean, those ships are not that expensive to buy a new one after killing.
I think it would solve your problem:)
THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. A player that was killed, stays dead and must make a new character. This would make the game more... realistic should we say? But we will loose many players that can't fight very well because it will become annoying to start over again and again and again... But the idea is AWESOME!

yes, a very good idea to not only let a trader loose his cargo but also his (far more expensive) ship. tell me, how would you eliminate the lolwutz pirates that shoot ayway? i mean, yes, sanctions and all are very nice, but they dont help the one who was destroyed.
and how many players would play as traders/miners when they get a major kick into the crotch everytime they are killed by a pirate? as example, loosing 5000 cargo is bad enough (all the time and money) - and then i have to rebuy my 150 million freighter too? come on, dont be ridicilous.
and its not like ppl get pirated 1 time/day... more like 3-5 times. lets say you are destroyed 2 times a day... thats 300 million alone to get the ship back. no one earns so much on his own, and no one has enough credits to make a profitable insurance with that sums involved.
If you forced traders to re-buy the ship, some, but not all pirates would intentionally destroy the trader or make 20-30 mill demands. (Better then losing a 150 mill ship) Imagine;
Trader: Ahhh! Trident!
Pirate: Pay 20 mill 5 seconds. [/givecash command typing would take longer than five seconds, considering the pirate's name is MyLTHs(RUS)]
Trader: Hold on, let's talk about this. (Five seconds of typing)

Go make a new server with this rule, try it, get pissed by it and later come here to share opinion.

'Scuse me, I meant loosing ship, not the actual character. We have escape pods, don't we?

Well of course, that would need some prize rebalancing (I still think that nontrading ships are too expensive) and some rule to force too high demands. But, traders would be forced to hire escorts or to fly in groups (join a faction?) or simply be extremely careful.

See above + insurance companies?

Rebalancing prices, transport armor and shield (I mean ship for 170 millions and it's so fragile? Weird, isn't it.) . This would finally made people be actually afraid of being destroyed. Today, it's just like "oh well, kill me I'll just respawn and trade again with no real loss". And mind you what I said was just an idea what I would like. It could be for example that when a ship is destroyed, every piece of equipment and hull would be on 1% of HP, not repairable by bots. That would cost something as well.

Pirate: Time up, d@i!
Trader has died.
Pirate: *Haha have fun working your way back up!*
Oh you don't have an escort? You don't check the lanes ahead? Your bad.
It's not a protection racket either, it's daylight robbery. I've personally never met pirates who will protect me against other pirates just because I paid them before.
