I support the idea, even though it has been posted many times, and never been answered on by a Dev./Admin. It may be hard coded and therefore impossible.

I'm very well aware of that, Kelt. But think about how many people never use /l now - any pirate's surely noticed a few.
Besides which, as it is you use /l specifically when you don't want the whole system to see it, perhaps because of a private in-RP conversation, or more commonly a piracy demand.
With this change, the vast majority of people would only use /s when you needed an entire system, or at least a large part of it, to know something. The casual in-RP conversations would completely vanish.
its nice idea, but to make it menu, it would have to be on side of client ie. modify freelancer.exe and its DLLs, or write memory resident program that will be intruding freelancer at runtime and change these options.
However server could be changed to prefix chat string it recieves unless specified otherwise, this prefix choice could be part of server commands like /restart etc. Something like /defaultChatPrefix local|system|group ... for user choice. When chosen local every chat string you would type without / at begining would be auto prefixed with "/l ".
i think it adds to the rp using local chat, as for example no pirates are going to want to broadcast where they will be pirating through system chat. of course they could use group chat etc, but it seems a lot easier to just use local chat. i think it would be good to just put it in the chat menu if possible, so people can select it instead of always having to write /l infront of everything

Doubt this couldn be done via a client-side edit, because not all servers support the / commands.
Server-side, I guess you could change system chat to local, then have to use /s to send system-wide messages.
