Liberty Dreadnought is great at fighting other battleships. So what should this be good at?
It can't be better in fighting heavy ships than Liberty Dread, because then we are in the realms of Nomad Battleship.
So it could be more "allround" = more light turrets, more sideways turrets etc, not sure if that fits for this rather "smooth/slim" feeling model.
Maybe you should stop considering it's role in PvP and start considering it's role in RP.
Carriers are not meant to be epic war machines, they're supposed to carry snub craft safely into range of the battle.
Although the concept of Carriers in Freelancer is flawed, since real Carriers are used when fighters are short-ranged vessels limited by their fuel. Fighters in Freelancer are long-ranged vessels, so the use of Carriers is questionable.
But from the carrier's role in RP you should be able to draft it's role in PvP. Focus mainly on point defense and not so much on assault.
People will always whinge about balance. You should know that by now :)
Buff Greyhound PLZ! xD

I'd give it mainly turret slots for point defense, solaris turrets and flak positioned for great coverage, no blind spots and maybe only one or two heavy slots at most. Then give it a crap load of armour and crappy turning. People who want to RP a carrier will still buy it, and people who thing bigger is better will still buy it regardless of what stats you give it. Lib Dread is made to RAEP stuff, just cause the Carrier is bigger, doesn't mean it has to be better or anything.
you get a ship that is ( if the size would actually be the size shown ) roughly the size of a rheinland battleship - that has little to no defense against other capital warships. - but can unleash a hailstorm of weaponfire against bombers.
good theory. - only a little flaw...
bombers - cause the bomberpilots wanted it so - can sharpshoot a ship of that size from FAR beyond the solaris weaponrange ( not to mention flaks anyway )
now - you will say "good, that ll keep it away from the so called bad RPers and leave it to the real RPers"
awesome - however, we do have a little example of how the "real" roleplayers react once things are REALLY done that way..
look at the history of the order carrier.
when it was made, it was also made clear that it would be a "second line" ship - not made for front line combat - and only there to assist larger fleet engagements.
everyone agreed that it d work as a concept - the good RPers ( or those that considered themselves as good ones ) argued with exactly the bolded comment above. - but once the ship rolled out - it became clear that pure roleplay only gets you so far - and that winning the RP, but loosing the pvp only satisfied like 0.0% of the players using the ship.
so - before you say "consider only the RP - and a pure RP ship will keep bad RPers away" keep in mind that ... at the end of a day - no one likes loosing when its the reason for that are game mechanics.
so the ship MUST be balanced, no matter what - or it ll be a waste of space.
Personally I don't understand why we have Carriers in this mod. Carriers are some of the greatest war machines hands down. Carriers are Epic war machines. But a carriers abilities extend from it's ability to carry smaller aircraft into battle. That is what makes them epic war machines.
We can't do that in Freelancer, so a quick solution would to be to drop the carrier class all together since it doesn't make much sense.

Makes sense. Like I said, people will always whine about balance xD
1) the Concept of a carrier is purely in RP. In pvp terms, they are intended to be balanced as a defensive war machine while the Dreadnought is made for offensive.
2)Having a Dread MKII is pointless since it will kill the "popularity" of the MKI ship.
3) The current shape is problematic with 1 and 2.
So, Whilst being a EXCELLENT model its current role is jeopardized. The only solution I would offer is to add it as a SRP ship for Admirals, like the Persephone or the Necrosis (would act as a flagship, shared between multiple players).
Some may be against this idea. Although, I would find it saddening to see such piece of art gathering dust on someone' hard drive.
Yeah, I really really loved this model in the end. It started out as a " just model to model" deal. But I really liked the way it came out. Which is why I ended up trying to get it in as a replace for the carrier. Either way though, I feel pretty good still since I got a lot of great feedback. From everyone so thanks alot, with all the good comments I was able to produce a ship that looks from what people say almost like a Vanilla ship.
And if it doesn't find a place here it can collect some proud dust on my hard drive. Maybe I'll make an sp mod so I can fly it around.
