I rarely use in game maps anyway since I can easily pull up every location in any system through external programs. I must say by now I've gotten used to doing this and it'd take some adjustments for me to start using game maps again.
It will hurt the codename dealers.
Anyway I fly on empty maps "guessing" where is the hole by memo- I have around 5-7k distance usually between my way-point and the actual hole position.
On the side note I just bought Roc for 120 mill with all systems/bases/holes mapped just for the fun.

how does it hurt the codename dealers? we ALREADY know where the wrecks are... this isn't gonna give anyone a map they dont already have, and you can only copy each map ONCE, unless we want map sellers in NY/penn
Althought I think it's a tad bit OORP, because one Character maybe knows whole Sirius, some other character doesn't. So the other character just types something and he gets the map? Wtf.

this wouldnt be so different from asking a junker to add a piece of counterfeit navmap software to your navigation systems.... inRP its entirely logical, if its not permitted to be done by anyone hostile to junkers/hackers, as those are the ones MOST reasonable factions that would do such a trade.... maybe make it hacker/junker base only, if you can land, you can trade.
To be honest, house systems should be mainly uncovered anyway as local services would offer uploads whilst the forces would obviously have access to a central database. Nebulae and hostile zones should be uncovered, of course, but all trade routes should be visible to new players, maybe with the exception of Gallia unless starting out in that house.

i intended it for copies of ships: my pirate has a fighter and a bomber, overlaying the map of the fighter onto the bomber woulda been nice
If you can only sell it once then what good is it? Most people have more than one character.
What would stop the person you just sold your map to from selling it to someone else?
For those of you who think it is oorp to sell maps, why? Knowledge is power/credits. If you were just starting out wouldn't you buy a map to show you where to go?
When you travel in RL if you do not know where to go to you not buy a map? Or do you just travel in the general direction you wish to go until you either get lost or arrive at your destination?
I like it. I think you should be able to sell it as often as you want, but make it so that if you were not the originator of the map you could not sell it.
ex. Trader A sells his map to trader B. Trader B cannot sell that map to another player. Maybe just to use on his other characters.
