The Tudors
has just resurfaced too. Not truely historicaly acurate, but encapsulates all that was 'fun' about HenryVIII. HBO have given this colourfull slice of English history new life with this lavish production. Sex, intreque, scandal and decapitation, what more could you ask for.!
Spartacus Blood and Sand.... GREAT SHOW....good fights...great story line.... Very graphic but well done.
Not for the faint of heart ....and maybe little ones might not want to watch this one.
The summer TV season is starting to cop a squat on our collective doorstep, so now is as good a time as any to put on some rubber gloves, poke around & see what scripts the networks have been eating:
The Good Guys- It's a buddy cop comedy that shows alot of promise. I've been looking forward to it personally because it's set & filmed in my hometown & I knew I was gonna start watching it even if it sucked. Luckily, they already aired the pilot & based on that so far, the show is going to be a fun watch when it officially premieres in a few days.
Rubicon- Basically, a show centered around secret societies & gov't conspiracies from the network that brings us 'Breaking Bad' 'Mad Men' & sometime soonish, a show about the zombie apocalypse called 'The Walking Dead'
...So, odds are, it's gonna rock.
Memphis Beat- Jason Lee (actor formerly named Earl & Kevin Smiths back-pocket bitch) plays a cop who lives with his mother...based on the trailers I've seen so far, it looks funny as hell.
Sure, there's alot more new stuff than this coming out, but other than these, most of the summer stock looks like (or already is) crap...like "The Gates" which is ABC's latest attempt to rip themselves off & try to give everybody yet another "Desperate Housewives" (this time with vampires) They tried & failed last year to do it with witches in "Eastwick" but knockoffs never work regardless of how they're spun. This show is not made for my demographic 'cause I'm not female or gay, but if you are one or the other, you might get into it...who knows?
True Blood- If you're gonna watch a show with vampires in it, watch the best one that the rest can't hold a candle to...Period.
(also, if you are a watcher, it's worth checking out the webisodes they are releasing now to psyche people up for the premiere called A Drop of True Blood)
Weeds- It's not just about a pot dealing suburban soccer mom anymore...the Sh** just keeps getting harrier, & the show keeps getting better.
Eureka- This has quietly became one of my favorite shows over the years, & I'm completely smitten w/ Jamie Ray Newman (yeah, I'm in deep smit) Also, keep an eye out for James Callis (Gaius Baltar) who moved from the doomed 'FlashForward' & into this.
Entourage- Always fun to watch & you can make a drinking game out of all the celebrity cameos.
For those that care & don't yet know, "Torchwood" finally gets a new season after months of its fate sitting in limbo:
On 7 June 2010, it was confirmed that Torchwood would be returning for 10 part series and would be a co-production between BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide and US premium entertainment network Starz Entertainment. John Barrowman and Eve Myles will be returning to the series which will feature locations from around the world
'Starz' is like the red headed stepchild of the premium cable channel family, but it did give us "Spartacus: Blood & Sand" & Torchwood should still maintain their regular production crew.
I've got some good news if you are in America & into this sort of thing, but this week a court ruling has forced the FCC to loosen up on their "Indecency regulations" citing that they are "unconstitutionally vague"
In a nutshell for you lazy bastards with no attention span, this means that network TV now has an open door to better compete with cable TV (which has never been within the FCC's jurisdiction)
That doesn't mean that we are immediately going to start seeing T&A during primetime, but the door is now officially open for network programming to have more freedom & less scattershot censorship.
There are huge cons here to go with the huge pros, & odds are it will probably end up getting appealed all the way up to the supreme court, but all in all, it's a big step in the right direction.:yahoo:
Ok, So...I'm currently watching Rubicon & so far, I think it has much potential.
There's alot of bitching about it on TV.com from some that think it's too slow, but you just gotta take those ADD'ers with a grain of salt. It's uber clear so far that enjoying the show is going to require an attention span, & since I haz one, I'm looking forward to what develops.
Also, there is Covert Affairs...it's not a big wow inducer, but so far, it's fun popcorn fluff to watch.
My biggest problem w/ the show is that the main character was cast as a Jennifer Garner wannabe in an 'Alias' wannabe role...but it's still worth checkin' out so long as you can check your TV viewing snobbery at the door & just enjoy it for what it is.
Personally, my snobbery will rear it's ugly head when the pre-mature Alias reboot airs soonish
(ABC claims that now that Lost is off the air, they are desperate to have something connected to the name of JJ Abrams & want to reboot Alias since they own the rights to it, regardless if JJ is willing to have anything to do with it...Seems like a pure prostitute bitch move to me...but then again, I'm just a TV fan & not a salaried suit & tie network prostitute bitch paranoid about loosing his job.:P)
"Listen: I'll distract & as a great act of machismo & devotion, bash the guy, rescue your lady & give me the keys to your van & everything will be OK. OK? Let's go"
'Have you been drinking?'
"My child just murdered somebody"
'Oh! Fair enough.'
...Well, technically, I guess ya had to be there:lol:
The new season is in full swing & there's alot of new shows out there to check out...So far though there are only a few that I feel have proven worthy of a recommendation.
Boardwalk Empire
I could explain what it's about, but there's really no need. It's a TV show done by Martin Scorsese. Nuff said?
No? OK, it's about the shady underground liquor business in 1920's Atlantic City during the time of prohibition when alcohol was illegal.
Terriers
Basically, this one is about a couple of slacker buddies who scrape out a living as unlicensed P.I.'s
3 episodes deep so far, & funny as hell without being a comedy.
Damn good writing & very fun to watch.
Lone Star
Yeah, If you know me you're probably rolling your eyes right now thinking "Jeeze, if I hear Kev talk about Texas one more effin' time I'm gonna beat him until he has to spend the rest of his life crapping into a colostomy bag." Well, Ima do it anyway!
In the simplest nutshell, this is a twisted tale of a con man & his father working together as the son juggles being married to two separate women in two separate parts of the state while he works to scam both families for every penny they've got.
Very cleverly done & far better than I expected.
Probably more to come later...unless the new shows on my docket for next week all end up suckin'
Sure, it's a live action "Incredibles" but yeah, ok, so what? Sure... It makes since considering that ABC is owned by Disney & all that, but beyond that tiny little thing that just so happens to irritate me beyond logical measure to the point of involuntary left eye twitching, I really liked it. ...It was just giggly-cute!
