Got it at release. I have a weak spot for Privateer-ish type space sims.
Also I enjoyed Starlancer and wanted to see (what seemed to be) it's continuation. Got a surprise when I started.
Played the game a bit. Was liking it...played it more, and more and more...a couple days later I finished the Single Player storyline and was on top of the world.
Was looking for some mod.. yea really I was already used to game moding experiences, And the way I initially discovered the game also mentioned the fact that this game was highly moded.
found it at a target or walmart for like 5 bucks 2 years ago played the crap out of the story line and wanted something more.. look up mods and been with disco sence 4.84
A friend of mine played the demo in front of me a fair few years ago. Loved the idea of flying 'big' ships (...like the Rhino.) Forgot all about it until I saw a second hand copy for sale two years ago.
Stumbled across Discovery a little while later in a search for aforementioned big ships. Finished the singleplayer campaign in a Rheinland Gunboat (Until I got stuck in a base, opted for a fighter with gunboat weapons from there.) Strangely enough I'm presently flying fighters.
BULLDOGNK and some other RoS folk told me about Discovery Freelancer on GLRP (aka Gangsta Life Roleplay), a SA:MP roleplay server.
And that was 2 and a half yers ago. I can't believe it's been so long.
Good times..
I got hooked on space sims with Elite, on Commodore 64. After that, I turned my world upside down to get a PC (the mighty 486 DX, with all the 4 MB of RAM...) so I could play Frontier, and First Encounters
Then, came the Privateer... Wing Commander series... and then came Freelancer (I haven't played Starlancer untill after that) ..
And so, I played the game lots of times, and allready played online on Hamburg City server, when my ping went wild and scarry, so I looked up for an alternative. I tried EVE, it was nice, but haven't tried it enough to decide if I'd pay for it or not, so I googled for some free servers... couple of days later, I discovered Discovery mod on moddb ... after a false start, playing as a Corsair (old habits die hard, what can I say...) then forgetting about it, going back to Hamburg, getting my chars deleted... I came again... just in time for 4.85 and it's first Beta... and got hooked.
Some Australian Nerd did:) I frakking hate him now for introducing this game to me. Can't wait for you to go back to Oz, Barnes
Remember to stay on the yellow brick road:P
