One thing that may encourage those "unreasoned killings" from a pirate might also be, in my opinion, that 99,99999% of the pirated traders do not report their incidents to the police forces, they just cruise away or respawn in a hurry to resume their trading and recover their losses (I did that as well, I'll admit it. I don't usually have much time to spend on my PC, so I prefer to spend it in the game rather than on the forum posting some Q_Q thread).
So effectively pirates get away with those "mass murders" in total impunity, as almost never there is any direct retaliation. Should the police find themselves overwhelmed by piracy reports pertaining a certain area (Mojave - NY gate anyone?), perhaps they would start actively patrolling that area, not simply wandering around looking for red targets (and often finding themselves outnumbered).
Also, police are usually flying small fighters, for no apparent reason other than being easy prey for pirate lolboats. I saw much more than once a cop finding himself in an ongoing crime scene and simply flying away because he couldn't do a damn thing against the outlaws. You see, the average pirate is so much protected against those small fighters, that even if the cop attacks him, he takes his time and kills the trader first, then proceeds to kill the cop.
Which brings me to my last point: pirates are often so trigger-happy because they can easily afford that. They got more firepower than the damn police (and I said police, not navy; navy shouldn't bother about internal security, if they do, it's because police almost never has the means to do that themselves). Take away those nonsensical pirate capships and you'll see a dramatic increase in pirate RP.
not always, at least. they want to achieve 'a greater good' and that justifies the means. the man or woman killing a few hundred peoply with a sabotage of a train / airline whatever can go to bed at night with a good feeling of a job well done, since he watched the news and they would announce that security will now be tighter somewhere. even if people died.
sometimes, though - they are just fanatics / madmen / etc
Let's try something else. Why does everyone roleplay a pirate that is ready to take away life rather than someone who's doing it because it's necessary to survive in a world where corporate life will not and cannot give you a chance?
I read this thread carefuly. We, The Pirate Society newer kill trader ship.Since that we need money to reach our goals.Since we dont have own home, we usualy travell all ower Sirius. We was temporary in Liberty, and i know that your story is true.Liberty Rogues usualy kill people without any RP.Pay or die piracy
Also, they usualy want just to harash them.Simple is Junker weapon dealer who was shooted from group of Liberty Rogues, who come to repair their ships at Rochester base after that. Also, a lot of Indi Pirates in Kusari Explorers demand all cargo when they scan Silver Ore, Or Gold Ore, what is unnaceptable.
What can i say...Those idiots need to feel how is when Bounty Hunter Cruiser come at their teritory and ruin their Job.
I hope some of them will realise what is the piracy.
Code:
NOTE:For stypid people who dont know.Balkan isnt country!!!!
Again, Rogues try not to take lives, we want to sell them to the Outcasts for beer money. If they can't run to their escape pods fast enough, they probably wouldn't have made for good slaves, now would they?

(not talking about outcasts and corsairs)
Because this is a game? And an arcadey space shooter to boot...
There's nothing wrong with taking it seriously, but keep in mind that this game is tailored for shooting things. Some people will be more dedicated to making it a 'realistic' environment - most, though, enjoy letting doing things in a game that they couldn't do in reality. Sure, it might annoy people like you (and me) that many players don't care too much for immersing themselves in their characters, but unless you want to kick off half the server it's just how things are gonna be.
And more to the topic at hand, I could think of plenty of reasons why a pirate SHOULD shoot a trader who doesn't pay. Whenever I manage to shoot down a trader, I just pretend I crippled his ship and stole his cargo. Whether you think that's stupid or not isn't important - what IS important is that we all see things a little differently and there isn't really a template for proper...'etiquette,' if you will.
i know. The problem actually is rather simple. It's when you (the guy that roleplays crippling a ship and taking cargo) meets a guy that roleplays ultimate death for example or similar situation.
Basically there is a lot of custom tailored roleplay and while it is not wrong, the best roleplay is actually when other person responds in similar manner. I was just trying to point out how difference between a terrorist ID and pirate ID seems to be in the fact that terrorist needs not to roleplay but eventually encounter ends pretty much the same.
