Omicroners/Corsairs/SCRA FR5 stuff

I think I actually talked to Vlko on Skype about this sort of thing a while back, when the screen shots of 9 or so Legates bombarding a neutral FP9 popped up on the forum.

Yeah, the whole "neutral" part was just me.
The freeport actually was shooting at pretty much everybody else there, but I forgot to shoot it and was just sitting there taking pretty pictures.

Also, yes. Seperate Ids would be nice.

Although i dont think seperate IFFs would be that hard either, since they would really just have to be copies of the standard zoner iffs.

And what happened to those two groups (Asgard and NovaPG)? They're dead and gone.

Really, there have been few groups that have gotten their own ID and have survived. SCRA is one, Colonials are another, IND a third.

TAZ should get their own ID, as they're Discordians, and the Zoner ID just fit best for them at the time. But then again, they're really the only group that has acted in a true Zoner style. IE keeping neutrality at the forefront (most of the time), not causing quite the ruckus, etc.

The rest of the Zoners do NOT need to be split into disparate groups, but instead should realize that while disparate they might be, one people they are. Taking the easy way out and gifting IDs to these groups isn't the answer. IDs and NPC affiliations aren't given out to just anyone, and in my opinion the other two official zoner groups don't really deserve either at this point in time.

What does need to happen is the leaders of the disparate Zoner groups put aside their pride, snappy comebacks, and thinly-veiled attempts at superiority and re-form a Council of Zoners. You can still have your separate holdings, but act like Zoners are a part of a whole, which you are, both in terms of game mechanics which one beaten drum, and in terms of in-game RP.

But then again, that's just my opinion.

You can still have your separate holdings, but act like Zoners are a part of a whole, which you are, both in terms of game mechanics which one beaten drum, and in terms of in-game RP.

Just for clarification, this was exactly the point of ZA.
Zoner Alliance was suppose to be as close we could get to merging vanilla Zoners with the multiplayer concept of Zoner factions. Under Zoner Alliance, all diplomatic policies were completely separate. Now I was away from Freelancer when ZA fell apart so I don't know what happened internally. It's entirely possible that the nature of the multiplayer environment drives groups such as ZA and CoZ into an inevitable attempt to do diplomacy on a global scale.

In any case, if anyone with access to the Zoner Alliance forum is reading this, perhaps you should get yourself there.

I think it has rather to do with the somewhat...faster..scale of politics in Disco.

That and the principle of "one central figure".

agreed with the 'reforming the council' part, but....

if we start handing out id's like sweeties, all we will be doing is rewarding bad behaviour. you have caused a ruckus, well done, have your own id.

the Benitez, Sails and TBH have been around forever. do they also deserve unique id's? probably, if we are going on length of time served, and RP etc etc... but do we need one?

Oddly enough this is exactly what I pointed out in another thread which a moderator felt he needed to lock.

I'd say it doesn't matter what anyone other than the SCRA, Corsairs, and Omicroners say on this matter. If those three groups agree to this style of a solution then they should do it. It reduces the admins work and interference in the matter.

For the sole purpose of education in terms of lore mechanics, I can tell you there's a very easy answer. If Corsairs were spread as widely as Zoners, there would be similar issues. Consider the fact that Corsairs also had a few small issues making the Council of Elders work. And this is while Corsairs have a single centralized Capitol (Crete). Now imagine on top of that, if Benitez was based from Baffin and Black Sails based from Liberty.

Aye, the distance is an issue.

But so is the very nature of the two groups.

Corsairs...well....we are fighters. Were a military. We fight things, and smuggle, and stuff.

Our enemies are pretty much everybody, cept junkers, zoners, hoghosha and Gaians.

Zoners......the whole point of zoners is that everybody there is different.

They dont have, as far as i can tell, a set goal, that every zoner ever can say yes to.

And the whole friends with everybody thing makes diplomacy difficult.

To be honest, it can't be that hard for the Zoners to organise in such a way that may be half way to a ZA. The problem with the ZA was that it started acting on behalf of everybody, instigating laws here and there, and generally trying to extend its power while they're already surrounded by militaries.

It can't be difficult to have a skype chat with the leaders of each of the zoner factions in so they can coordinate their responses to threats and respond as three voices in chorus rather than one voice in which some internal factors may disagree. This is what the Corsairs do, and it seems to work pretty well. Could be quite hard when you have each side bountied by each other though :3

Furthermore, we've (Corsairs) actually divided bases already between the official factions. I can only remember bits about who got what though.

I was thinking you could divide Zoner bases by region:

Freeport 1/Freeport 5 = Omega Freeports
Freeport 9/Freeport 11 = Omicron Freeports
Freeport 2/Ames = Independent world Freeports
Freeport 6/Freeport 10 = Tau Freeports

That actually leaves space for another Zoner official faction. Each region also presents a specific set of challenges which each faction could deal with, as well as a good deal of overlap.

Those controlling the Omega Freeports would have a different diplomacy to those controlling the Tau Freeports, as each organisation has to deal with vastly different regional powers. I can't see the Tau Freeport controllers letting Corsairs dock, since it would just be a little silly given the region and lack of presence of Corsairs. Equally, I cant imagine the Omicron Freeport controllers to have anything to do with the Kusari government for the same reason.

I think you're just having your civil war late, like we did.
