VoIP is definitely better when it comes to team work. The problem is that when you are in a group of say, 5 to 10 people, you get distracted easily and you kinda forget to type in game and all, or you just don't care about it because you're having so much fun pew pew-ing with your friends, and it can harm the experience of other players.

Unless it's a fight between two large groups, both with microphones, where it's even and fun for all.

I've always thought of using the microphone... My laptop already has a built-in one, so...

what discourages me is that I usually RP in my talk... Sure, it's fine with my male characters, and I can change my accent quite well to fit the char's RP...

... But I also have... female characters. It'd be a bit... creepy... and gay on my part to RP a woman's voice.

And even if I'd find a specific software that alters the voice when it goes through the microphone, still... I kinda detest acting like a woman. That's what I like about text-based conversations. ;)

It's incrediby hard to speak "in character" in Skype. It takes practise or very easy situations in order not to slip into OORP gaming mechanisms and OORP reactions/comments.

I've seldom seen roleplay work well via Skype.

Whilst some of you think I mean using a microphone to RP with, what I meant was factions using microphones to communicate with. OORP talks, discussions, most importantly, battle plans and tactics.

Oddly, shouting at computer would make many people stare at me, which is not something nice.

Mwhahaha I'd love to watch that, you'd look like such a weirdo.

"I've got a gunboat on me, someone get its attention please." "Out of bots, can someone help?"

"Imma firin my SNAC!" "Firing novas, get the hell out of there." "Aaahhhh, cruiser missile spam incoming."

"Run! It's a sololol battleship!" Ye, would be great for coordinating combat.

I do this all the time. Because of my age it'd be a tad difficult to rp with the mic. Plus I just don't like the thought.
