I believe the point he was trying to make is the fact that these pirates in question had a goal from the start of destroying the ship for " points ".
Have encountered this type of behavior before here, the rp is so thin its not even funny, its pure pvp abuse, plain and simple.
- a pirate must make a demand that is both - within the targets possible reach and also reasonable.
making a demand "run for your life" might be a silly one - cause if the target fulfils the demand ... the pirate has no right to shoot him anymore. ( demand fulfilled )
there are grey areas, too. - a pirate saying "give me money" might see himself confronted with 1 sirius credit ( demand fulfilled ) - cause he failed to say how much money. - making more demands might be reasonble - but i m not quite sure what the rules are: "no, give me more, - thanks.. oh and give me even more, or i kill you.... thanks.... now give me more a 3rd time or i kill you .... thanks.... well.. lets see how much you can give me - give me more a 4th time!! - what no? - now you die !"
a pirate cannot kill the trader prior to making a demand AND give the trader sufficient time to respond.
the pirate can NEVER kill the trader before doing the above! - when the trader shoots at the pirat - another rules applies:
"self defense" - but keep in mind - self defense kicks in when your shields have been drained by 50% or more. so taking one shot from a trader =/= the right to blow him up WITHOUT a demand + sufficient time to respond.
I'm too lazy to read earlier comments, but one thing I can tell you that they were not breaking any rules, merely RPing themself as psychokiller, bloodthirsty pirate, they were not pirating your money, but your life, AFAIK its allowed in here, and you were accidentally passing in front of their nose and get killed
Edit : search their name in story and biography section, maybe you lucky to find their stories there, unique RP usually have their own story

i think that is incorrect : you cannot pirate a life
the only time that you can kill someone is:
- when you are a clear enemy to the faction you are fighting ( pirates / traders are NOT enemies in that case )
- when you are a terrorist or similar
- when there is a bounty for either that one person - and you signed up
- or when there is a blanket bounty for his faction - and you already made yourself RED to his faction ( and also signed up for the bounty )
- when you made a demand for money or cargo and that demand was not met
you cannot pirate a life. - cause that is an unreasoable demand : "give me your life or i ll take it!" leaves the target no choice but to die. - considering the imbalance between the offensive capability of a pirate - and the defensive capability of a trader / miner ... this is pvp abuse.

I was refering to their RP, not their ID, I remember a couple times ago there was a pirate who hunting and taking lifes another pirate, but he did that with a proper and I can say unique RP.
I know ID has limitation but not RP Rulewise

TS| is pirate faction, that pirates to gain profit. They are actively hunting under "competition", which is not allowed by their ID rules. End of topic.

I can't say I agree with your point of view.
If they pirate for profit they need to keep competition of others as low as possible to be able to gain profit.
If this means they need to fight for it, I assume they will.
Basicly they are trying to keep their foothold in the piracy around Liberty.
If they lose here they might lose their ability to pirate for profit.

Discovery RP 24/7 Rules
Not much you can agree or not with obvious rules, prohibiting what they are doing now.
' Wrote:You're wrong. Pirates cannot destroy trade ships without demand if pirates themselves started hostilities. As pirates would not be defending themselves, they'd be continueing engagement.
