I took advice from some of you yesterday and spent some time flying around learning about the mod. But i've recently hit a few limiting factors and one of them seems to be strength; in numbers and in general. I'm not quite fussed on trading and never really have been, so i've really preferred to work my way up in fighter pilot work. Game missions only get you so far and they take so damn long on this mod.

Most people seem to be pretty self centered when it comes to escort work or bounty hunting. Seems the profit is the ultimate motive. Sucks alot more than you'd think being a low level.

So..

Has anyone got any cleaning work need doing? Escorting? Pest control?

Bounty hunting is actually profitable, but problem is, you'll need to have a fully equipped ship and decent knowledge of PvP to get it working. There are various Bounty Boards you can register on and then hunt the targets down to get paid. It's actually a fun thing to do, but seeing how it's a completely PvP-Based activity, I don't think you can use it to build up from scratch.

And for escorting, best place to offer escorts is the mining fields if you ask me. Many haulers would actually accept your offer if your price is reasonable. The only point you'll have to keep in mind is, escorting fails most of the time, because if the transport you're escorting gets attacked by a pirate, he'll be long gone by the time (and if) you manage to kill the pirate. So, better option is scouting. You'll fly 14k ahead of the transport you're escorting, take the lanes and gates before him, and make sure his route is clear before he even runs into pirates. If you see a hostile on the way, you can easily warn the transport so he can take another (Usually a longer, but safer) route.

Since you are new I would recommend to join one of the established organisations in this business-
|BHG, MMs,Reavers and others like that they will help you to get the concept fast since it would take a while to do it only by yourself. Mind that you will need some at least average PvP skills in order to be successful.

(yes, i've seen enough of those lolduels, where house military with overwhelming force on the field willingly loses a pilot in a duel. ffs.)

Right about now is when I would usually suggest you join a trading faction as an escort, but I won't. You'll just end up bored to death. You should listen to what Godevo said. Join the VPS, MM, or BHG. I'm sure they will help you get set up.

Either offer your services as an escort, or join a squad that has means to fund you.
You can always take a loan and go Han style (solo) but trust me bounty hunting is way more fun in groups.

We all started from nothing and most of us can tell you that journey to the top is difficult indeed.

Yes, credits are hard to come by for a low level player. But the aim of Discovery isn't all about earning the most credits and fly the most powerful ship. It's about roleplay. Sometimes roleplaying can leave you feeling left out as not everyone is inclined in roleplaying. But trust me, my friend, a good session of roleplay is much more rewarding than earning millions without speaking to anyone.

I know I've deviated from the subject of earning money, but in my opinion money is only a subsidiary to roleplay here. Keep trying, there're many means of working your way up to your dream ship.

Come work for me.

Your ability as a pilot means nothing. I have people who pilot Starblazers because they want to. Escort duties especially, require eyes - not guns.

If you make yourself useful as a goon performing whatever menial tasks I see fit to apply, you will be paid. Transporting goods, spying on and following people, collection of information and disruption of other vessels are but a few of the naughty things we get up to here at the M.C.F.

This thread gives you a glimpse of what my company is like.
