Ship Entry from Discovery 4.85 latest version for the Fafnir
(Differences highlighted in red)
Regardless of whether or not the Fafnir needs to be buffed/nerfed, I think we can safely rule out that no changes have been made to the ships stats (aside from universal bomber gun changes) since at least Beta 2 of Discovery 4.85. Unfortunately I don't have the files for the original Beta of 4.85.
' Wrote:It had bigger core, so unlike now, it could fire snacs in rapid succession. Do not argue on this, Fafnir was my first "snub" so i know damn well how it could fire two snacs with just 2 seconds interval.. IT CANNOT as it is now..
It could always fire SNs at exactly same rate as now, if we don't count non public 4.85 pre-release testing where all kinds of funny things were tried with it including mounting torp slots backwards and adding some special crazy torps for it...
I'm saying that as the one who was responsible for the final stats the whole time.
What could be confusing you is that at one point we reduced powercore on all bombers and also the poweruse of SNAC and Nova torp by same %. So that they could still fire SN and Nova at same rate, while firing other guns at a bit lower one.
Anyway as I already wrote it could always fire SN at same rate as it does now.
' Wrote:Berglemir wasn't nerfed, it's still a great bomber, if not the best. Also, very small.
It has been nerfed a few times, all the way since 4.83 in various steps.
Bots were reduced (originally 145), armor was reduced (24k => 22k => 20k), agility (dodging) was reduced at least 2 times... and finally for 4.85 the size was increased by about 10%.
Nevertheless it's still a very good ship, maybe too good in some situations.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.
and the bergle might be quite good, but it reaction time and maneuverability is quite low. It never should have had a medium core in the first place: Its so small.
Bergl should be a light bomber, not a medium one with crappy turning and tiny size.
Fafnir should be a super heavy bomber, not a useless hunk of metal the size of a walrus with two novas stapled on and the turning of a frozen potato.
Fafnir has hardpoints for 4 guns and 2 turrets. If we activate the two other hardpoints.. at least then it will have an excuse for being so big.

Berglemir is still not any better then its user... Ive beaten berglemir bombers with cupholder and a libby gunboat both good and bad ones. Bombers in general is no better then the pilots ability to aim the snac.
And seeing that it went from 65k powercore to 50k is bit... weird..
I know for a fact that at the start of .85 it had 57 400 powercore, and in my opinion there is no damn reason to reduce that... its underpowered in the "firing guns" department to such a degree that the argument is ridiculous.
I remember using the Fafnir. It is actually a pretty good ship but I was flying Indy so ended up switching to Bergelmir which is now my Wilde ship. I don't remember the Fafnir taking any hits from the Nerf Patrol but yeah the Bergelmir has taken several. Still love it though. There are better performing bombers now like the BHG one but at least they haven't destroyed it's playability yet, maybe the ritualistic Berg nerf next mod will finally kill it once and for all.
In first beta (still have it in ) of 4.85 it had
65k capacity, 3500 recharge.
Supernova used 38 000 energy per shot then.
since first full release of 4.85 it has:
50880 / 2735
and Supernova uses 29 740 energy.
If you check the ratio you find it stayed exactly the same.

a) What does Fafnir suck at in your opinion?
Imo:
It's great at killing unescorted cruiser/bc/bs both alone and in groups
It's not that good at fighting GBs.
It dies faster than other bombers when escorts are present, however due to the better powercore it still does significant amount of damage.
b)
2 HpWeapons - used by the current 2 guns
2 HpTurret - used by current 2 turrets
5 HpTorpedo - 2 used by current torp hadpoints, 1 used for CD, 2 remaining are rear-only and were used for the rear SN/torpedo testing that I mentioned.
Don't think that putting 2 more guns on rear firing slots would change anything.
