I just searched forum "wingman" i found just some topic about carrier, so decided to create new topic.
Then i say wingman i mean, a NPC ship, wich could be hired at base and would escort you on the way and aid in battle. Yes, some of you may say "impossible" but its possible to do it. I remember then Buck Rogers creator of colours mod tryied it to create.. i think he didnt managed to do it. But later i saw 88 flak. I dont now how, im not mod creator, but in 88 flak mod creator have done a revoliutionary step and as i heard maged to create a wingman who can be hired at the faction bases.
Maybe this is to much work for mod creators.. but .. i just giving you an idea.

They are called Mercs.;)
but... mercs smell bad, and they take my moneys!

honestly though, mercenaries often charge quite a bit for their services - and you -always- end up paying more for a merc than you would just paying that pesky pirate who tries to take your money. Further, most pirates will simply go after your transport and ignore the merc (dodge his fire) and at least heavily damage you before you can get away.
What about an invite button is space that makes a selected NPC fighter group of the same faction as your tag (and or ID, depending on what is possible) enter formation with you. One group at a time, no capital ships and to keep things simple they don't follow when you jump to another system.
Ex, a RM taged player could get RM NPCs to join him but not Liberty Navy NPCs.

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. I've hired Mercs for 20% of my profit in a Large Train (4,500 cargo), and I've always payed far less than the pirates in the area had made me pay. 1.25 Million is definitely better than 2-4 million...

Because that is impossible with what we know. Unless you had access to the FL sourcecode and could modify and add buttons to Freelancer, as well as AI code... it can't be done. Plus you would have legal issues with modifying the sourcecode.
From my understanding, BBFlak exploits a bug in the contraband-scanning code to get the patrols to follow you. You can do that to a certain degree in any ship that's large enough. They'll only follow you until either you get within 500m of them or they find something more important to do, like attacking hostiles.
