My idea of the Phantoms starts with that wahts always is in the wake of Humanity, Conflicts and War.
Since we know it always hits the poor pepole the most and drives than more than often in Religion.
most of Religions promise them to lead to salvation or serenity but also there are those who bring the promise of revange and Glory.
now for the Phantoms they are a cult who follow the whisperings of a Unknown artefakt.
( it is not nomad or from this plane of exsistence most likely its from a other dimension)
those whispers luring with the promise of the peace of oblivon.
(yeah there are ppl who wahnt to be forgotten or in that wath the most belive is to forget the past themself.)
To the many wars that plagued the sirius sektor the Phantoms prosper in the shadows, hidden away of everyone who could harm them but thats over now!
Intresting enough its not a violent emerge no they whated to trade with (this deepends were they will be stationed in the future) and spreed theyre Philosophy/Religion.
but in short time it was clear thats not all. (cliffhanger so rp is posibble)

2.Social Strukture /Religion

As befor Mentiont they "all" Follow a cult who worships a Relik of unkown origin.
the way to worship is for the most praying for the blood of there enemys or if they are in a Fighting
caste to Sacrefice them themselve.
Just to be clear that is internal fighting against outsiders dont count at least not much .
also they are stukured in caste´s (maybe even seperate id´s)

(these two Caste id´s should only be obtainable over SRP)
the Regere caste, is the ruleing Body in the Phantoms society they have the power to mark people for execution and are also the religious leaders who has directly seen the artefakt
and heard its whispers.
the Bellator caste, is the fighting force who keeps a keen eye of all who enters and leave the phantoms Proxys and also can leave those to pursue any who has been marked for Execution by the Regere caste.
(those id´s are open for all players)
The Mango caste are the traders and builders of the phantoms
The Sicarius caste are best known for there Assassinations (Hit board anyone? ^^) but are also often seen as guards and mercenaries of rich Traders, Pirats and Lawfull .
Also as statet in the Phantoms 2.0 thred they are no kill all at will(terror) faction anymore.

To the most Human inhabitants of Sirius they are neutral exept following exeptions
Friendly/Allied:
Outcasts: (exept the Phantom mainsystem will be moved)
Gaian: there is a posibility of a conection
Zoners/USI: for trading a Logical Choice
Freelancers: maybe not full allied but the come along.
Unfriendly but still white(posible Rp):
LSF: to the fact of a Unknown influance
Order: have the same problem as the LSF and that the phantoms dont share there "Alien" Tech.
Hostile:
Wild: humanbodys controlled by Nomads = Heretical
Nomads: nobody knows why (exept the Regere caste maybe)
one thing the Sicarius caste if they get a id should be at least unfriendly maybe even hostile to any bountyhunter and bountyhunter core since they are seen as Rivales.
Techwise they use there own but also can generic sirius (like the Outcasts and any other biger house /faktion)

To say this is nothing new would be somewhat cliched, but it's true. Every time something happens, the population of discovery has an aneurism.
The vast majority of which have never had any real interaction with the Phantoms nor have any idea of their lore.
Contrary to popular belief, they've never been a straight import faction (at first it looks like more of a fusion of Warhammer-40k and Fallout). They were founded in the same era as the AW, NovaPG, SA, HF, Helghast, and other factions which were more RP gaming clans then NPC factions. An era where people didn't have their heads stuck up their collected buttocks as they do now.
Their Lore evolved over time, and they've been involved in some of the most major server events we've ever had (including the bombardment of Cambridge), and they've been RPing as long as anyone here.
Kane was good at RPing. So was Rob. And Sarah and Majkp and Hoodlum (Del was silly~. Zelot still IS silly). All of my interactions with them were generally positive. Most of the people now arguing against them have never interacted with, nor been on the server when the Phantoms were extant.
That being said, I have already made my purposal in private, as to avoid any rampant speculation.
There are two camps here, the first saying 'no', and the second without clear goals, or even a clear identity for the retcon'd version. Guess which is the better idea?

these are my ideas for the phantoms and how they could be easyer integated with the discovery mod as it stands, nothing more nothing less i know mostly the lore is thin to say the least but i am not in the deff/lore team i dont know wahts there up to and its theirs to use parts or nothing maybe all from my idea who knows.
even if nothing of it will be used i am not bitter than its not my mod.
if i had a direckt line nobody but the deffs would see this stuff.
and Coin i dont was targeting you but the overall negativity i see in the new thread´s about the phantoms.
the negativity you see in t'other thread comes from players who remember the bad old days of the phantoms. yes, they added to the space is dangerous ethos, no, they didn't add much beyond "clear out, our carefully worked rp event is in tatters".
the phooms were disbanded for a reason. rebranding them isn't going to make the essential problem (too pvp orientated) to go away.
In order to reuse the phantom's assets we'd need to look at what disco is missing in terms of factions.
The two I can think of is either a smuggler faction or a refugee faction. We already have pirates, traders, revolutionaries and lawfuls. Off the top of my head smugglers and refugees are the only ones that haven't been represented.
smuggling just doesnt pay. i have indy smugglers and (ex)official faction smugglers. we resigned our official status, as the economy is geared heavily towards gallia, and from crete, thats a nights work to do one trip.
to boost smuggler activity, tlagsnet needs a nerf. smugglers should not be restricted to jumpholes and cruise, they should be able to blend in with the regular traffic. the commodity prices for contraband mean that its not profitable enough to be a chaotic neutral character. you make more money hauling toxic waste.
before you yell powertrader, you have to think of the realities of trading. smuggling is damned dangerous - there is no-one coming to save you. you either RP your way out, or pay your way out, and if the profts are marginal at best, then paying 5m can easily wipe out the profit for that run.
i can't really see a refugee faction starting up. it's about as exciting as passengers. refugees are notorious for being a bit light in the wallet department, so they wouldn't be able to pay much, and very few places gleefully accept oodles of unemployed people descending on their planets/bases.
I agree with you wholeheartly Coin on almost every point, the tlags however I'd suggest altering something like freighters can't be scanned or as a component of an ID.
We have a smuggler docking ring behind Leeds, if we could put those around the major planets and recalculate the sell prices for freighter sized loads I imagine it would do wonders.
You know what, I'm going to work on this idea properly.
