1. Just park my ship, die, and move on out of the system for 4 hours.
2. Fight for 10 hours, neither of us dieing, untill we both decide to just stop shooting and fly our seperate ways and not make a deal of it.
and then theres sort of a third one.
3. dock at the nearest base, then bicker for 20 minutes about PvP rules and how it was OoRP to land at that base ect ect...
Possibly the horribly mismatched fights should be an exeption of the PvP rules?
Its very tiring to get pinned down by a damn gunboat, it really is, because theres nothing you can do exept dodge dodge dodge dodge and shoot them a little bit to remind yourself just how insanly strong there shields are.

Its like, oh look, a gunboat, checkmate. damn
I feel your pain. Same problem exists when you are in a gunboat and the other guy is in a battle cruiser. Same two choices exist with one exception ... if you stick around to fight ... the battle cruiser kills you in about 30 seconds. There is no 10 hour fight with them. Your best bet is to head for the nearest rock field and let them bounce around while you escape.
There IS a 10 hour long fight if you are using a light fighter and are determined not to die.
Tell me, how to I run from a gunboat? If I run, they cruise disrupt me, and I get gunned down durring the 5 seconds im not boosting around as hard as i possibly can to not die
You get pinned down... you cant type, you cant cruise... you gotta just boost boost boost, turn turn turn, dodge dodge dodge
Thrust in bursts - conserve your energy.
Dont fly in straight lines.
Call for help - yes you can type in system or in group.
It takes practice.
Learning when to run, is a life saver, both in RP and for real.
Theres no shame in running, when you are outmatched.
And a Light Fighter is fairly easy to escape in. If you fly right, they cant touch you.
It's stupidity to stick around and get gunned down - just because "I MUST NOT LOSE!".
Practice, practice, practice. Die lots. It's good for your soul.
Eventually you'll gain a sense of when your life is in danger and when to stick around.
Get on teamspeak and call for help when your in trouble. Thats a good tactic and faster than
typing. Sometimes that backfires and you get jumped by other pirates as well.
Good Luck.

i conserve thrust just fine, its just that when you got a gunbaot that gets on your ass and is spamming missiles you cant get into cruise speed without getting hammered by them
about 20 times i had to abort cruising because otherwise i would have gotten killed.
Half of those attempts got my shields dropped and a a bit of damage to my hull... a split second longer and i would have been dead... and i was only about 20% into cruise
But then, if you think about it, going into a rock field and killing NPC's to collect like 50 pirate pilots to sell at a bounty hunter base -- that is the same unfair advantage
we could be any of those NPC's, because we're part of the same universe
i mean hopefully we're more intelligent and try to run away, but if its a 1vs1 fight you're not always going to win, which is why if you're a smaller fighter and you're in territory in which gunboats or cruisers are going to be in, you travel in numbers.
in my humble opinion:)
Your dark moors by night is the unspoken sunshine of hope in the morning. Tomorrow you will be presented with a kid, whose forehead, swollen with newly growing horns, will predict the battles of love -- In vain: For the offspring of this playful flock will stain your cold rivers with red blood. Death will consume your land, and this kid, martyr to a forgotten cause, will lie in your streams forever, never rotting.
And we will sing in X Minor, our lack of hope of change.
Fly for the rocks. No capship can effectively attack you in any asteroid or debris field, and missiles become useless in that environment (missiles are about 90% more likely to hit a rock or peice of debris and explode prematurely than they are to hit you).
You can dodge well enough that they shouldnt be able to hit you as you slowly crawl towards the nearest debris field or jump hole.
Oh yea, ALWAYS use a jump hole, never a gate :P
The gates can get clogged up and leave you with a huge line of NPC's in the way, jump holes are instant.
