In my game of Stellaris is currently playing out the middle of the Mass Effect series. Except with an ancient biological civilization bent on destroying life as we know it.
First game: Imperium of Man was devastated and enslaved by some filthy xeno scum
Second game: Imperium of Man is spacelocked by giant filthy xeno federation, covering half of the galaxy
kk. How can I turn on "easy mode", like playing as Ottomans in EU4?
First Game: Crayter Dominion (yes not republic, its a dominion under the rule of ex-fleet admiral now grand marshall in stellaris) at war with crystallids and every alien race. Purges stuff everywhere and just making Thanatos-Class Destroyers.
First session, play a reptilian race of militaristic, fanatical collectivists at the very edge of the galaxy. 3 xenophobes as neighbors. FML.

After successfully fending off Tyranid(or whatever) invasion and subjugating all the galaxy in my third game, I can tell that the game is unbalanced as hell. Colonisation is much better than conquering, cause no threat generation(after 3 conquered planets half a galaxy forms a federation against you), no unhappy pops and with genetic engineering your own species can colonisate anything anyway. And even if you're playing as militarist, vassalisation is much better, cause unlimited amount of planets for 60% warscore and no threat. Besides that, there're simply too many habitable planets in the galaxy. 4 times less planets and it will be OK.
But well, it will be much more interesting 4 DLCs later.
