Title says it all really, I've made a character who will be RPing as a refugee from Leeds who will be begging people for spare credits or cargo to feed everyone suffering on Sprague. My begging would involve either:

A) Sitting at junctions asking for cargo/credits.

B) Disrupting tradelanes and asking, though slightly more aggressive/desperate perhaps CDing ships who try to run off once, followed by more begging and apologising etc.

Would it require a pirate ID to pull off or could it be done on the FL ID?

Cheers.

I guess you can do this without a pirate ID. But disrupting tradlines is considered an offence in the Houses (or rather Bretonia im not certain about the others).
But its not rare that new players ask for some starting money and i never heard such was considered piracy

I guess @Croft meant more something like begging for money with RP background. Not like new players.
In my eyes it could be possible to do this without Pirate ID since you wouldn't force someone to give you money in the end..

Me watching the daily drama turn into yet another Disco-doomsday discussion:

By Liberty law this:

Would be a crime according to this:
(05-19-2008, 10:26 PM)The Republic Of Liberty Wrote: II. Piracy.

This is described as:

The disruption of a trade lane ring with intent to conduct acts of piracy.

Intent is shown by the accused party being present in the close vicinity of a trade lane ring when the disrupted party drops out of the lane.

In my LN, I'd probably do whatever it takes to stop you from disrupting the lanes. So, it does make you a criminal in a lawman's eyes.

However, you wouldn't need a Pirate ID for that.

I don't mind breaking the law, in fact I intend to just to give the BPA folks something to do. Perhaps running without guns would be more fitting and remove the threat of actual piracy?
Edit: Guns in the plural sense, I'd still need one to knock out the lanes obviously.

You can't disrupt the lanes without weapons, though...

I like the idea, to be honest. It's always fun to stumble upon such.

If you're not demanding. You're not pirating.

Though people will be able to shoot you if you keep CDing them(?) and being a general nuisance.

Speaking here as a person who has done this RP before.

Piracy is an act of following up a demand with the destruction or other consequences.
IMHO you can demand all you want, but unless you do not follow up your actions with the distruction or an engagement of your target, it is not piracy server-rules-wise, but be ready for in-rp consequences of such actions based on house law.

Mind you, the possible outcomes skirt the edge of the rules, so if you start begging and disrupting tradelanes, the person will have all right to either open fire on you if they start to get upset or - if they feel as though you are doing so with the pretense "I am not attacking you, you cannot attack me back", they can file a 1.0 against you for griefing or trolling, or even worse - if they feel as though your non-engagement actions are a ploy to bait them to engage you in self-defense, while there is nothing to self-defend against. It all depends on how you execute this.

Basically I am saying, do this at your own risk. Remember launching multiple CDs does count for an attack. Go over engagement rules again and make sure to keep them in mind while you beg in a more aggressive manner. If you do this well, it might work. If not, you risk losing your guns and credits. In the end, it is up to you to moderate yourself so the later does not happen.

I'll keep it in mind Spazzy, I think at the worst I'll probably do is disrupt a single lane and hound/beg until the next ring, I may even drop the CD entirely if it's deemed too aggressive.
