I wanted to run this contest for a long time now, but always forgot, or something more important seized my attention. But now... well, we need new mod logo, we need more promotional screenshots, and we just need a small event about screenshot showcase. So, why not?
Rules of contest are simple. There are two nominations, scenery screenshots and action screenshots. Scenery include... well, scenery and ships, any 'peaceful' screenshots. Action include combat with other players or NPCs.
Winners (that will be determined by voting) will get certain prizes in-game.
1 - 100 million credits
2 - 70 million credits
3 - 40 million credits
Ooh, count me in :0)
Let's get one thing clear right at the start: No photoshoppery. This means no applying filters or effects or drawing on the screenshots to make them look different from how they do in-game. Let's say cropping images (ie: cutting off the HUD) and adjusting the brightness is all fair game though.
Ah ok, leaving HUD on is easier. Thought it'd look better for the scenery category shots. I play in pretty high resolution... would you want me to resize screenies down to 1024x768 or something easier to look at on lower res displays?
Putting them on the forum is no problem, I can link thumbnails from Imageshack like I do with most of my pics, in my opinion posting the images right into the thread will slow everything down and be a problem for people with limited bandwidth. Posting links to the pictures or as I do, thumbnail links from an imagedump host, will be easier on the forum :0)
Quote:no Photoshop allowed (except for very basic brightness/contrast tweaks)
I think that qualifies. Although I've found auto-levels isn't the best for Freelancer shots, as it tends to try and adjust colours with default white-balance, whereas most of the Freelancer universe is not lit by pure white light. I think the better way of adjusting pictures is doing the brightness/contrast levels manually on the histogram in Photoshop (ctrl + L). That way it doesn't mess with the colour hues.
