My suggestion is to transform the gate guarding Border Stations, like the ones in Manchester or in Hamburg into Satellites. Maybe bigger ones. That would still explain their original purpose.

Since gates won't be moved away from lanes this would at least open up more piracy positions without this economy breaking change.

Luckily the last of these in Liberty has been destroyed by Gallia.

Bias disclaimer: I play IC. I will lose run away bases.

Frankfurt: Fulda Border Station
Hamburg: Lübeck Border Station
Hokkaido: Otaru Border Station
Manchester: Kingston Border Station
Manchester: Liverpool Border Station
Shikoku: Ohashi Border Station
Stuttgart: Ulm Border Station
Stuttgart: Konstanz Border Station

Also suggesting to make the two Battleships in Hudson undockable. Hudson is dead for piracy. And you don't use Bering since it has no gate.

I like the idea in general, but your list seems to be a bit too much.

Instead of making them all satellites, some of them could be moved from the gates a few clicks, so that that there is still a piracy hot spot while giving the trader a safe harbor:

Satellite candidates
Frankfurt: Fulda Border Station
Stuttgart: Ulm Border Station
Hokkaido: Otaru Border Station
Manchester: Kingston Border Station
Shikoku: Ohashi Border Station

Moving:
Hamburg: Lübeck Border Station
Manchester: Liverpool Border Station
Koeln: Olpe Border station

Stuttgart: Konstanz Border Station should be left as it is, otherwise all traders flying from Solarius to Stuttgart might have a hard way to run from pirates at all, as they have to fly through open space.

From what I also know the moving of the battleships in Hudson was already mentioned by RFP| 1iC several months ago.

I am all for moving stuff away from gates.

Looking at it again I agree.

Several months ago I told devs that placement of battleships in Hudson is killing piracy and they should be moved further. But nothing happened (same as nothing happend to the bug in the Hudson-Hamburg gate which was repoted repeatedly as well).

Regarding border stations - I brought similar idea of limited docking more than year ago (I don´t like idea of reducing the bases into satellites though) for the exact reason of promoting piracy. I was told it is possible but that´s where whole thing ended.

Quote:[19.6.2015 22:03:38 | Edited 22:04:46] translucent-rabbit: But another question connected to it - is it possible to make specific station to work like docking satellite - so for snubs and freighters only? But still keeping the original base model.
[20.6.2015 10:48:48] Echo / Star 7: Yes, it is possible.
[20.6.2015 10:49:09] Echo / Star 7: It'd be a brand new base archetype.
[20.6.2015 10:49:45] Echo / Star 7: The type of ships that are or aren't allowed to dock at a base are determined by the base arch, so you can't just go and toggle on or off cap docking at a given base.
[20.6.2015 10:51:00] translucent-rabbit: I see. I was thinking about solving the problem with border stations this way. Making them dockable only to snubs and freighters, thus they don´t affect piracy because transports can´t hide in them from pirates.
[20.6.2015 10:51:27] Echo / Star 7: Border stations aren't placed according to PvP balance, though.
[20.6.2015 10:51:36] translucent-rabbit: This could be actually used in all houses to make bottlenecks more working for piracy.
[20.6.2015 10:59:04] Echo / Star 7: It's not a bad idea at all - to have bases with strict docking types - it'd just take quite a while to implement and balance.
[20.6.2015 10:59:30] Echo / Star 7: The main problem is what happens when pirate caps hug a lawful snub-only undock, etc.

Though before doing anything, it would be good to contact leaders of factions which own the bases and discuss any changes with them.

On a ragebreak. Or ragequit. Time will tell.

Of course. This is just a proposal.

And as for the satellites I wasn't thinking of these little sensor things but maybe something bigger that looks station similar. I mean we have in theory dockable miners everywhere that we cannot dock on. Something similar could be done for these?

I like the idea of snubs only though. That will make them actually more like the police launch and guard points they are. That would be another really great option imo.

Staff roles:

Making them undockable for ships larger than freighters or gunboats would remove them from being able to limit piracy. These border stations are the primary "producers" of Criminals going to prison stations, so I wouldn't like to see them become undockable altogether.

Remember all those Criminal routes from Border Stations to Pris-... No? Nobody?

Good joke.
