Glad to hear this is the case, as I was also going to suggest the same thing, hopefully something gets done about him whether it be he leaves this community alone or he gets arrested, whatever happens first to be honest!

I am glad and hope for a good result in this whole affair , hopefully it sends a message to other would be hackers , hopefully we wont need the two weeks waiting thing anymore then =)

I notice this got overlooked. As I said early on in the topic, forcing players to stay in one system (or a handful) will do a better job of driving away new players than any hacker could manage.
My other concern here is that the token authorisation method being developed could potentially interfere with the smooth running of other Discovery servers. Not everyone only plays on the one server, you know.
Will other server owners be forced to update and implement the token system since the Discovery Launcher now forces updates on players instantly now?
If so will there be the option for "universal" tokens across all servers, or would every single server have to generate their own?
If each server has to generate their own tokens, what measures would be in place to stop tokens for different servers interfering with each other?
I do know that a couple of other servers are concerned enough with the potential issues with tokens that they're now seriously discussing downgrading to an earlier version of Discovery.

No.
I've already stopped pushing new plugin updates to third-party servers ever since some server owners were found to still be running their servers under windows XP, as it was noted here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=134709
All clientside code updates thus far were made fully transparent in order not to interfere with these servers. That's why there's a fair bit of GC features you don't have. Maintaining your plugins is your own responsability with the public git.
I'm mostly interested in seeing this implemented, even though I'm not very likely to be able to get on any time in the next couple of days due to work.
It's a pity it has to happen, but it looks like the easiest solution to the problem at present.
Yes, it does mean more work for the Admins, but it's better than not being able to play at all.
Kudos to the team hard at work getting this set up and hopefully it won't dig too deeply into your Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) holidays.
With that in mind, RL COMES FIRST people.
Our Admins and other behind the scenes have things happening in RL, especially around this time of year, so if they don't manage to get this sorted for the weekend, cut them some slack, we KNOW they will have made the effort at the very least.

Not being able to play for more than 3 seconds until a cheater will click his right mouse button is something that would drive away more players

Like the current anticheat tool is very unlikely to be made public

I know you've said that the plugin won't be getting distributed to other servers, but my concern about the potenital for the token addition to the launcher to interfere with being able interfere with connecting to other servers hasn't yet been answered. Do we have any guarantees that there'll be no issues at all on that end? What testing will be done to ensure this?

Phew, i finaly found out my old password for that very old account... i really hate to come to this english forum, even more posting in it, but i have no choice today. (i only come when someone gives links to me. I am always totally lost and never know where to find something when i comes here by myself)
Welp... i don't know how those tokens are working but i do really hope that will not be put in only 1 IP adress, because my IP automaticaly changes every week and i don't want to ask a new token every week --' (and i can do nothing to stop that)
And i already said in your Facebook post what i was thinking about it and i'll try to calm myself this time, because yesterday i was really pissed off... but as i said in there : Needless to say that i now think that the official server is officially dead.... it will never be the same... This Trial thing will just causes the new players to go somewhere else... the new game Star Citizen, for example... :/
We already lost a lot of players just because of this game. This Trial thing will just weaken Freelancer even more. I saw a lot a players never coming back into the game. The newbies are the ones who keeps Discovery alive. This Trial thing will just makes them running away.
The only thing positive i see here is the probability to see the unofficial servers a bit more active. But as i said, if you put that trial thing, i'll just considers DiscoveryGC as a dead server. Because the new players will never stay, and the old one will leave it progressively. Every one of my friends already leaved the server. I am now completely alone.
I am in the official server since 4.84 but i'll not follow you this time. This got too far. I'm sorry to have to say that, but i do not agree with that trial thing. This is too much extreme. It will lead DiscoveryGC to its death. You just makes the hackers job easier.
I wish you a merry christmas, but i do hope you all realize that Discovery will never be the same...
RIP Discovery... It was good knowing you.
PS : if there are Discord servers i would be glad to join them, and not Skype ones because Skype has too much bugs and i removed it.
I am really not a forum guy, so I appologize for any mistake I may do in here.
