Background While the coup plotters seeking to overthrow the Bundesrepublik and establish an Empire have managed to enlist the support of Military as well as Rheinland's major corporations with the notable exception of ALG, they did not attempt to gain the support of the Marinenachrichtendiensts.
This specialized arms of Rheinland's Armed Forces is responsible for everything on Intelligence, Counter-Intelligence, Military Police, Nomad Warfare and Black Ops. But most importantly they research and develop Rheinland's most advanced technologies.
Fearing that without MND involvement in the coup, Rheinland will lose these essential and vital functions and become even more weakened than it already is, retired BDM Direktor Volker Koch attempts to recruit key personnel of BDM such as Komissaroberrat Horst Stieglitz of BDM's Oberkommando, Jürgen von Thielau and Viktoria Landers from the Inspektorat who also both descend from Rheinland's old aristocratic families. Hanna Lichthammer was invited too as a Kaptain of the Marinekommando who commands strategic BDM warships.
However not everything goes according to plan. While Jürgen and Viktoria are still considering their options, Hanna Lichthammer is strongly against anything without informing Direktor Geoff Enfield first. Following that, Horst Stieglitz accuses the coup plotters of high treason prompting Volker to arrest him. However in the ensuing chaos Lichthammer escapes from the Von Thielau Estate and meets with her two escorts who were waiting outside. In order to increase their chances of survival, Lichthammer and her two escorts go separate ways.
When the Imperialists realize that Lichthammer has secretly left the meeting, they frantically run to their ships in order to stop them before they get to safety. This is when the Mini-Event takes place as the two escorts, Franziska Canaris and Hans Reinert, are intercepted by Jürgen von Thielau and a civilian ship secretly piloted by Viktoria Landers before using the Unstable Jump Hole in the western part of Stuttgart system and successfully escaping from their pursuers.

Storyline Impact
If the Imperialists manage to win the fight, Canaris and Reinert will be wounded (for storyline purposes) and unable to report back to Direktor Enfield in time about the impeding coup'd'etat.
If the Republican Loyalists manage to win the fight, they can reach Direktor Enfield and be able to report to him about everything that was discussed in the meeting. Thus BDM will have knowledge of the Bretonian-led coup on the only democratic House of Sirius except Liberty.
