I never understood the desire to only ever go into a balanced fight that had to be pre arranged. If no one cares and its just for the pew why not have these in conn? these registration events that dont allow NEMP's because whiny players cant handle a loss seem super oorp to me. if no one cares what side they wind up on i just dont understand what the point is.
Why not set Embrun to a billion HP and let the Gaians (and whoever really) try to destroy it over the course of a week? Then the factions can organize attacks, and if a side has worse odds because they are outnumbered, they could use a balancing factor to give the underdog a better chance, like using NEMP's? Or hiring freelancers inrp. Give it some time, real time, and a real 'objective', the real consequences of a victory for the Gaians or not can actually be enticement to join a side and help.
This is literally just show up, line up, pew, end. those seeking blues get what they want, tons of opportunity for the rest of the server thrown away. Story artificially moves on which is actually not moving at all as such. There are many ways to balance out these situations to make them interesting and attract people, and it would help if players were given some notice a battle like this was coming, they could prepare by organizing, seeking players to join them, etc.
Its like this, I havent played Gaians as they never interested me that much so far, but if a real battle breaks out over a battleship, and its fall greatly effects how the Gaians move forward, vs how the Enclave moves forward, I'd grind to make a cruiser to jump in. And if it cant be taken down in a single assault, I'd keep at it if we could continue to try shaving off HP with every attack.
Let super weapons and repair ships be balancers. Making repair ships work on bases like this opens up a whole new role and chance to score back. Enclave guys might not have a huge force that can get on all at once but if they cant defend the ship they could always try repairs between attacks.
NEMPs have been disabled for PvP (0 DMG) and would only make FPS low for people. And it's a leftover from before. And for a good reason.
That's my problem. And big snub battles kill my framerate. So what if for a few seconds it lowers it a bit more.
This is all pointing out my point. Invite or registration only parties are never that fun. Think of it like that. Just schedule it, set an objective, and let people just show up. That is how events should be on a RP server. Registration events like this should be considered private and have nothing to do with lore/story. Official server events should be open to all and not require constant balancing in advance. RP server events should also always have open outcomes. If you want to have big pvp with no outcome, go do so. Story battles should always be open, that was part of the whole point of wind up playing a game like this.
This is for people who can't handle getting killed or losing a battle in Freelancer. I say, make them go down that way and learn to live with it. Let people show up and play for what side they really want, and balance among themselves. Special weapons could easily balance things out against bigger forces. Or if all the experienced aces wind up in one faction, there are ways to counter it, but there's no work going into new features for exactly that, and the only one that was in play pvp wise was removed to protect WEAK players.
All the devs need to do is create the situation. Set an objective (Embrun with high HP). Heaven forbid for an event, the purpose be centered around some risk. If you're going to bother, make it interesting. Enclave still has a shipyard, so, again, its not the end entirely if Embrun was destroyed. Or maybe it would survive with just enough HP to be considered saved. Maybe enclave will lose the ship, or not. Or if Gaians win, it could be boarded? This is what I'd like to see being developed, and GM's should be the referees overseeing these situations. The players can do this, and there are tons of ways to balance things other than registration only events where only pvp'ers can even participate anyways. Every one of these events could be both a joint pvp and supply event, and last longer than a day. Day one should be just the opening battle! If Embrun could take damage, and Enclave could use repair ships to keep it regenerating between attacks, there would be other field of activity to get in on. Frankly this could and should be being done all the time and are excellent reasons to get people grinding again. That goes for enclave, if they lost the ship, they can work to make another. We need reasons to keep the ball rolling, not these one time matches that only ever the exact same thing.
