My first day in Disco was in singleplayer because I didn't have internet yet and Pepe brought the installation from his office computer. First time I did the Campaign was not with Vanilla, but with 4.84 (you could actually do that). It was very hard because NPC guns weren't the weak Vanilla ones, but actual, proper guns meant to hurt players. I remember a Nomad GB primary turret would instakill my Barracuda, so I had to buy an armour upgrade. I didn't buy an Anubis because I thought slow fighters were bad fighters, and the Anubis was pretty slow.
My first day in multiplayer was 4.85. I launched from Erie in my brand new CTE 750 AE Starflier and immediately fired at the nearest player. It was some Rhino with class 8 guns (my guns were class 1-3) and I exploded... so I tried it again and had the same result. Then I decided I needed a better ship and planned to buy a Bullhead with Kusari cruiser missiles. Battleships were too expensive and you were required to have a battleship license to fly them (i.e. BS scanner), which is why I opted for a battlecruiser. Kusari missiles had the longest range of all weapons, 6K I think, so I thought I could be invulnerable, having in mind they had infinite ammo. That did not go well in my first battle, as I was cruised (EKed) upon by an Osiris and instakilled by heavy mortars. Eventually I sold that ship in order to gather enough cash for a Dunkirk, which I still own.
