The game takes forever to load. You have to click the server twice to connect successfully as it almost always fails the first time (and hangs and freezes during this). The game frequently crashes for any reason it can find. Random FPS drops and freezes are also becoming common.
'I would like to be half as clever as some people like to believe they are' Life is full of disappointments, it is how we handle them that helps to define us, as a person
I personally do not have these issues, the delay when entering the server on the server list seems like a network issue, and random frame drops are because of something or someone spawning in your radar, bigger things make the frame drops worst. Load screens are there even with an SSD and that's probably because the single core usage is a bottleneck so no matter how good the SSD is, they will stay there. What I've noticed is that some load screens are longer due to a high amount of objects that the game needs to load, specially when you undock from planet New London.

Is your SSD more than 75% full?
(They will be slower than. And much slower above 90%.)

I use a Skylake i5 and my Freelancer is on a SATA-SSD. I don't have such problems.
@all: When you have trouble with your performance, check your Antivirus-Program. Many of them feed much power! I suggest the included Windows 10-AV-Scanner. And if you think you do too much shit in the internet, use ESET.
The engine is an ancient pile of garbage that uses half a dozen deprecated APIs, all of which have been hacked back into service through layers and layers of compatibility shims inside Windows. It's genuinely a miracle it runs at all.
Time would be much better spent on developing an entirely new engine and honestly a Discovery sequel than to try to make Freelancer run better.
