Ok, actual we have much activity becouse of Corona.
And i'm shure that will be lower, when Corona is "over". (But please no discussion about that. Thank you!)
I know, here will be some answer like "no", "stupid idea", "only for powertrader" and so on.
And of corse many of you would say, "what a stupid idea".
So befor you just post something like that, pleas take some time and think about why i post this idea.
The basic behind this idea is, that we could get more active players per system, if we remove/merge some systems.
Of coure there will be questions like what happens with the assets (like PoB, Mining-fields and so on) of the systems. But this is something that can be answerd, if ther will be systmems merged.
We want to have a Roleplay-Server.(or at least the rules say this is a roleplay-server.) But roleplay can only work with other player.
When we reduce the systems, we get more player per system. And i know it is hard to say, but there are systems, who visit less than one player per week.
And when we reduce the systems, we should spread that all olong the "houses" (include Corsair, Outcasts and so on).
In addition in merging systems i would remove some systems (or at least the acces to them) so that they will only used for Events.
My suggestion for merging systems:
Omicron Psi & Iota
Omicron Xi & Chi
Omega 55 & 58
Omega 41 & 47
Poole & Dublin
Orleans & Champangne or Picardy
Omicron Alpha & Phi or Omicron Tau or Omicron Beta
Omicron Gamma & Kappa (in this case some at least one of the Zoner-bases should go to Delta or Theta)
Omicron Sigma & 59
Kepler & Gallileo
Vespucci & Kansas
And i'm shure there are more options.
Also i would remove some systems (or at lest the acces, so that they can be used for events):

No.
If I want to interact with people, I go to them, regardless where they are. If I don't want to run into someone, but am forced due to a small amount of systems, I will simply log off and not play the game.

Ahh finally somebody else saying it.
But...
Omega 55 & 58 - currently both systems made not great gameplay wise. 55 seems relied to become activity hub, but it lost connection with theta which actually made it a hub. 58 just no comments.
Should be mergerd with no transports (warships only) hole to theta.
Omicron Xi & Chi
Chi was reworked in wrong approach. For some reasons there people who think that every system should have sense, and that Chi should be clear and flyable (like anybody forced them fly inside it).
This system should've been stay hard to explore unmapped death zone. Its that case when it was a feature. It attracted explorers indeed by it.
Sigma-59 just so fucking beatiful system, so dont touch it even. Phi Beta Tau require rework (phi should get HD remake, Tau should get solars arranged more sensible, Beta should get some limited passages for waving caps), but not merging.
i dont sure about Vespucci cos i just rarely (almost never) play in this region, but all rest examples have another problems and solutions, not linked to merging.
Its a bad idea to start axing systems. It will make it seem like we're shrinking up. We can adjust some routes better, but there should always be a huge amount of space to draw from. It makes the place seem big, and opens up many options. The problem isnt with too many systems. There's so much unused space and places because we don't use the space or celestial objects for anything of value. Lets make use of the dead ends, turn them into sandboxes.
I've suggested we make planets and moons generate a virtual commodity (like another game currency, but handled via forum) every month for those who hold claim to them, that they could buy disposable npc capship bases with. That would make people care about the vast unused space more. Couple that with ideas like player built weapons platforms and/or player built mooring fixtures, and people would get out more and make use of those places, instead of ignoring them as pure scenery. All of that would lead to more supply chains, and more need to patrol any space with moons/planets to prevent their loss to smaller factions.
It would be much better to find ways of using whats already there, and put value to planets/moons finally so we'll have more reason to venture into the unused places more than once. Suddenly we'd have a whole world to re-discover and treat much differently from now on. Let houses and guilds work out treaties over planets of actual resource value, or at worse, fight little wars over them with a bunch of little player driven options, like using bases, WP's and mortal npc caps.
Lets see the place announce more activities around space bodies and more player investment options for the huge mod we have, instead of announcing we're just cutting systems instead.
Unfortunately, I don't see this suggestion fix the mentioned problem. It would do if every system had the same value in terms of player count, but players visit certain systems for certain reasons. The correct way to draw players to each other is by hosting events, which is already happening. No matter how much we shrink the universe, it won't get back the 200 player count, but additionally kills the exploration aspect of a mod that's literally called Discovery.
