Front de Libération de Gallia is a radical liberation front dedicated to ending the reign of The Gallic Union military state and it’s nobles, former royalists, Confederates they blame for the Mazagran massacre and collaborators. The largely pro-Sirian Front’s powerful Maquisard extremist and slowly developing ex-Council staff dominated military arms also seek to eradicate all Gallic Royalist splinter groups and punish those who aid them.

The rise of The Front
In the beginnings, The Maquis were a radical terrorist organization, and many saw them as just the minor extremist off-shoot of The Council - the main domestic opposition force against the Gallic Royal Navy and the brutal Gallic Royal dynasty. Maquis used unorthodox methods of assassinations, bombings and had deep ties to Gallia's criminal underground - so they were useful to the more politically oriented Council who didn't want to dirty their hands directly and the two organizations found themselves joined at the hip.
Their unorthodox methods aside, Maquis are very principled and ideological people however - so when The Council joined The Confederacy and committed treason by de-facto legitimizing a holdout of Gallic nobility and aristocracy - the Grand Duchy of Burgundy in the process, the honeymoon was over. The principled Maquis refused to surrender themselves to The Confederacy and went their own way. The Response from The Confederacy was ruthless and brutal. They decided to make a statement, and tried to board and capture Maquis HQ -The Mazagran Depot, when that failed, they gassed the station and in the end ceremoniously destroyed it, fuelling the Maquis zeal even further.
The Maquis sky-rocketed to a full-blown Liberation Front when the treachery was completed, and the spineless politicians they once dirtied their hands for openly welcomed the genocidal Royals into their ranks to form The Gallic Union and The Gallic Navy during The Kusari Invasion. The Maquis went from a fringe terrorist organization, to the main opposing force to the leaders of The now military state The Gallic Union. The formation of The Union caused many Ex-Council women and men who were not willing to bend their principles all the way to join their former "dirty workers" and fly under their banner. Multiple Ex-Council Military commanders defected to The Maquis, bringing with them several older "Tarasque" class Battlecruisers, "Vouivre" class cruisers and blueprints, and even the remainder of the mighty Battleship Pamiers Battlegroup itself, along with their conventional combat experience.
The former radical off-shoots thus became the real deal - the spearhead of liberation of Gallia from the genocidal Royalist and The Gallic Union. The Maquis became the Front de Libération!
Vital Assets
Roussillon
The symbol of The Maquis transformation from a fringe sub-faction of The Council to a full fledged stand-alone powerul Liberation Front, Roussillon is the Maquis-controlled system that is home not only to Caussade Depot, but the main pride of The Front's newly acquired conventional military capability - The Battlegroup Pamiers.
The Front plans for Roussillon: Expand The Caussade Depot with a battleship capable dry-dock
The Depot was the most forward outpost in former Enclave Territory - therefore there was no space for expansion as it had to stay hidden at all costs. Now that The Maquis are the dominant force of Roussillon and can not only work on expanding the base themselves, but utilise 3rd parties freely with no opposition in the system, they can expand the base to real prominence.
The Front's goal is to build a full-fledged, battleship capable dry-dock as an attachment of the base, to gain the ability to effectively repair Pamiers, and the potential to salvage and repair one of the many Redemption wrecks that can be found around Gallia. The Front has little production and salvage capabilities itself - to succeed with the goal of expanding Caussade Depot into a functioning battleship capable dry-dock it will have to make extensive use of external factions and suppliers.
Make use of Tolouse
The planet's settlements were nuked by The Council, and the planet suffers from a toxic atmosphere caused by The Council's scorched earth policy.
Due to The Front's plans to Liberate Gallia from The villainous Union leaders' influence, and discouraged by the doomed fate of The Council, the plans for Tolouse are modest - establish a network of low population, secret installations as a refuge to Maquis heroes and for the purpose of resource gathering, rather than attempts at making it a thriving planet or even The Front's capitol. Completely lacking the expertise in waste disposal, terraforming or planet-side base construction, The Front plans on partnering up with third parties to make use of Tolouse's resources alongside them.
Verdun Dockyard(Lorraine)
Verdun is the single most important installation of the Maquis presently. It produces cruisers for The Front and maintains the vessels of The Battlecruiser Class.
The Front is aware of the extremely risky location within a stone's throw of Planet Metz and heavy assets of The Union. Long term plans of The Front include decreasing the over-reliance on Verdun when it comes to producing and maintaining capital vessels. Until the time comes when Caussade in the drastically safer Roussillon is capable of such feats, Verdun remains the backbone of The Maquis, and The Front will go to extreme measures, including shooting down fellow Maquis if their path would risk Verdun's exposure.
Chambery Base(Burgundy)
Chambery is a relatively insignificant base for The Maquis, but is a key asset in The Front's eyes. This is where initiates are sent to take their first steps, this where The Saulx Skirmish took place.
This is also where The Front stages attacks against The Duchy, that they in large part blame for corrupting The Council and turning it against The Maquis in the early days of The Confederacy.
Eplessier Depot(Picardy)
A small installation from The Maquis perspective, but an extremely key and indispensable one for The Front.
Being the closest to The Zurich system, Cologne and the Zurich => Abbeville tradelane, it is used to stage frequent propaganda and resource raising raids against The Gallic Metal Service in Zurich, a favourite pastime of many a Maquisard. It is the main hub from witch Sirians heading for Gallia are intercepted, educated about the sinister Gallic Union and Navy, and to whom The Front spreads it's heroic propaganda in order to gain Sirian allies (and step hard on those that openly side with The Union.)
Lapalisse Depot (Tau-53)
One of the newest bases of The Maquis, it was finally fully completed in 827 Sirian Tau date, and is expected to rise to prominence quickly. The regular Maquis use the base to strike at nearby miners, but that is not the case at all for The Front Maquisards that prefer to invest their efforts into striking Gallic Miners rather than Sirians (As they both gain resources and deprive The Union of them at the same time).
Instead Lapalisse was dubbed "The Holiday Base" by The Front, where the Front's most old school psychopathic extremist die hard Maquisards go to unwind from the pressures of Gallia. This is the base where vast majority of aggression against Sirians by the otherwise largely Pro-Sirian Front originates from. They raid any stray Gallic Union collaborating ships that try to leave or enter Gallia. They pass their time by ruthlessly hunting Outcasts down for sport and resources, simply because they dared to wipe their scouts out when The Council and Maquis first entered Sirius. Friendly competitions and bets are held on who can more creatively murder torture and rob The shifty Kusari Naval Forces, that invaded Gallia but then legitimised The Union by negotiating with them and retreated like nothing happened when the royalists returned and jointly took hold of power with the Confederate traitors.
This is also where the contact and operations with The Blood Dragons - a once ally to The Maquis who are starting with a clean slate with The Front - happens.
And last but not least, this is the base where The Front Maquisards indulge in their love-hate relationship with The Golden Chrysanthemums, with whom they fight side by side with one day against the KNF, GN and GNI, who's ships they try to shoot down purely for entertainment when they partner with The Outcasts the next day and with whom they do anything in-between on other days.
The Maquis were isolated in Gallia like all Gallic factions initially. After the minefields were breached they were a simple wardog of The Council - they relied on them for logistics and vast majority of large scale diplomacy just followed the Council's.
Various Maquis cells cooporated and allied with Sirian factions like for example with The Bretonian Armed Forces, The Coalition, Zoners, Gaians and The Blood Dragons, but only The Gaian and Blood Dragon alliances were strong and developed enough to be carried over to the new Maquis entity and The Front's diplomacy as a distinction from the former Council's relations.
The Maquisards and The Front are thrust into a new era - of having to forge their own large scale logistics and diplomacy with Sirians for the first time in history. To get to know Sirian factions and form mutual relationships, for better or worse.
The Front's stance is in contrast to The Union's and in line with the old Council's values. They are pro-Sirian by default, laser focused on their goal of taking down The Union, using any support they can get. Due to not having a developed logistical network of their own since they relied on Council on that and recently acquiring a fleet of (largely inferior and old) capital ships it needs to supply, The Maquis are desperate for allies and suppliers. They have no choice but to work closely with The Corse and Gallic Brigands on the home front, and try to get Sirian allies any way they can.
Due to the nature of Gallia, where The Council used scorched earth policy to nuke their own people with such massive yields to make an entire planet uninhabitable (Tolouse), The Confederacy killed, gassed and obliterated The Maquis' then headquarters (Mazagran), and ex royalists and soldiers are capable of following genocidal orders and glassing entire planets and killing billions (Leeds, New London) the Maquis don't see anything wrong with their methods. They are de-sensitivised to violence against their enemies and political terrorism, including not batting an eye at ending civilian lives and collateral damage. Although The Front would like to see most of Sirius as their allies against The Union, and they don't understand why anyone wouldn't fully ally with them against the ticking timebomb of a military state lead by war criminals, their alliances especially with House forces will always be uneasy due to the combat methods The Maquis use.
